I dont think its a question of forgetting WW1. There are still plenty of people who had close relatives who died in it. My Grandfather was torpedoed and went down with his ship three months before the end of WW1 in 1918 when my Dad was six months old. He was 27. I think for some people and regardless of any
learning process, it would still mean a lot for their country to say "We Shall Remember Them".
.
Of course, and I have similar connections but I just feel that the thing has become a sort of poppy industry which gives the media an open goal when what we should be doing is getting to grips with today's problems. They're huge.

Forget (as you put it) is clearly the wrong word especially considering the well established "Lest We Forget". The media would never criticise Royal British Legion commemorations...they wouldn't cause such offence given the many comparatively younger servicemen and women who have been involved, injured etc and honour their fallen comrades from all conflicts. The Poppy Industry as you call it raises millions for the work of the British Legion for helping ex service people in need. People don't need to buy one or wear one. I don't think "forgetting" WW1 would solve any of todays problems which I agree are many and complex.
Its such a polarised suggestion with no correlation between the two. However its just my view from a service family and you're entitled to yours.;)

I have no argument with anything you say. The Remembrance ceremonies are things that hold the nation together and are vital for that reason.
I do feel an urge to go forward though.

....away from the glare of publicity, Madeleine McCann’s grandad was laid to rest in Liverpool today. I can only imagine what those grandparents have endured these last 14 years or so and it’s no surprise he’s been in very poor health for a long time.

Hopefully Brian might now find some peace. COYB.

That is so sad on so many levels. 14 years? Christ. Some kinda living hell that. We all remember "that" photo as a nipper.
