Cunning linguistFor words like practise/practice and counsel/council, the word with the 's' is a verb and the word with the 'c' is a noun. Same with prophesy/prophecy. Thus, when a prophet prophesies he makes prophecies. If one made prophecies in the past, one prophesied. Many mistakenly employ 'prophesised' as a past tense/participle...there is no such word.
