On paper the relationship between him and Clouseau in the films was horribly racist. The reality is that, it's actually one of the funniest and closest relationships ever seen on film. You got the feeling that they were mates off the screen too.
Even though you know he's gonna jump out of the cupboard to attack Clouseau it's still funny even now.
