….i’m reminded of his intimidating frame coming out of the Goodison tunnel in the mid 60s in that ‘orrible kit that made them all look even bigger and even meaner.

Nothing stylish about ‘Rowdy’ but that was the game back then. Telescopic legs, a fine component of the slide tackle but you weren’t getting past if he missed the ball. For 20 years after he stopped playing anything booted high into the Goodison stands was immediately met with a chorus of ‘Yeatssssss’.

‘And most of all we hate Big Ron’, just banter so Rip the big handsome Scotsman.

And this is why they have a fan base all over the country, Shankley had the media on strings and they loved it. Catterick didn’t care for the them. They’ve controlled that narrative ever since.
