The Pogues were very much part of my youth growing up, tremendous energy and excitement watching them perform before drink really took its toll on McGownas physical wellbeing.

Sad news about Shane MacGowan, The Pogues were a big part of my younger days. It’s been coming for a long time and he did well to continue as long as he did. However I’m quite conflicted on how I feel. If you read James Fearnley’s autobiography it doesn’t paint Shane in a great light. He came across as a bit of a controlling and self centred person, frequently letting his band mates down with his erratic behaviour. Still, he had moments of pure genius so I guess I’ll remember that more than anything else.

Shane was most definitely not an Evertonian. He disliked football but always knew what to say in regards to loyalties. I remember watching them play the royal court and they were bigging up Tranmere Rovers.

RIP Shane MacGowan, a real artiste. He bet on a horse called the Bottle of Smoke and his horse won.

His death lends an unexpected sad note to a day otherwise taken up with celebrations over the death of Henry Kissinger.

Was only reading he’s been I hospital again the other day, the prognosis seemed like he would be fine.
RIP, considering his lifestyle 65 was a good innings I guess.
