Truly fascinating character. Embodied so many elements of modern sports - the self-aggrandizing publicity, the dark side of athlete treatment, the ability of institutions to turn a blind eye to unsavory history in the pursuit of winning, the power of innovation and the need for a sense of humor when in the public eye. Can't say he was one of the good guys, but without a doubt he was a living symbol of what money and media attention have done to sport in general.
