Another anecdote :

I never knew that. I thought he was clean, relatively, all his life.
 
Him and Wyman were a bit older than the others and had been around the block musically - notably in jazz playing.
But to me his beat marked out the Stones sound. Keith will be particularly sad. He always turned to him on stage and they had a close bond.
 
He remained stoic through an increasingly bizarre decade. Imagine starting the sixties playing in a smoky club as an anonymous jazz drummer and seven years later having to dress as a wizard on an album cover and being chased by nubile teenagers all the time.
