Poor Gerd’s Mullered
One of the greatest….sad news, a truly great goalscorer.
Very sad news to hear of the passing of Gerd Müller, a man for whom the term "legendary" truly applies. Without in any way making this about "us", there is a very strong argument that the greatest goalscorer of the first half of the 20th century was Dixie Dean and the greatest goalscorer of the second half was Der Bomber himself. Both are almost mythical in legend.
Müller had the physique of Maradona, a low centre of gravity and the most uncanny ablity to be in the right place at the right time, a lethal combination of Lineker, Rush, Rossi, and El Diego in the box. The ball went in off his arse, from prone positions on the ground, or simply from a moment of finishing genius that was beyond all contemporaries. Technically, he wasn't half the players that Franz Beckenbauer or Karl-Heinz Rummenigge were, but he was unparalleled in the penalty area, the greatest instinctive finisher of all time.
Didn't he also say that Brian Labone was the hardest centre half he'd encountered.Very sad news to hear of the passing of Gerd Müller, a man for whom the term "legendary" truly applies.
