Just read now about John Hurt. I didn't even realise he had cancer. One of my favourite actors. His performance in 10 Rillington Place in particular.

He lived for a while, I think in a house owned by Ron Wood, outside my home town of Athy many years ago. I remember sitting on my own at the train station early one morning and there was an old man sitting on the opposite platform that looked like he worked as a scarecrow. After a while I realised who it was....And all I could think of was him lying on a table with an alien bursting out of his stomach! I waved hello, he just looked at me. Still makes me cringe now...

Must be rightly considered one of the real greats of cinema, even if he always kept himself under the radar?
