Sad, so many on here will be familiar with his popular paintings if not his name.
I once enjoyed a documentary with just him and Ian Rankine of Rebus fame having a chat over a few pints in the Cafe Royal in Edinburgh. RIP fella.

There was always a touch of snobbery towards Vettriano from the Scottish art establishment.
His paintings were seen as commercial, like glossy magazine photos.
This rather mirrored the attitude of the Paris Salon in the C19th towards the impressionists such as Pissarro and Cezanne for their desire to get outdoors and paint what they saw rather than sticking to formal subjects.
