The Curious Case of Nikica Jelavic and Papiss Cisse

Nice one, so because I don't rate Jela then I have to know exactly who could do us a better job, coming from the lad who criticized me for ****ging off Joe Cole, how did West Ham get on today. I have no Idea who we should have instead but that does not make Jelavic a decent striker.

I didn't say you had to know exactly who could do a better job, but i'd at least assume that if you want to get rid of our main striker after one full season then you'd have some ideas about who would be a better option.

Notice how Jelavic has been on the wing loads ? I somehow doubt he's decided to do that because he loves being on the wing. Perhaps he's not the only one to blame for his lack of goals, perhaps he's doing that in desperation because hes not getting good enough service up top. Just a thought.

Not sure what Joe Cole has to do with anything tbh.

Reminder again that Jela cost us less than £5m and has scored 7 this season. What strikers could you get for that much who would do better guaranteed ?

Personally I think Jela coming deeper and out wide more is down to the lack of service and sheer frustration rather than him being told to do so.

Maybe if Pienaar and Baines would stop pissing about when in good positions and actually put the ball in the box, he might have a chance.

If he was missing the chances he was getting then id worry, but how many chances has he been getting? Very limited from what i can see.

But which way does that argument work, as it can go both ways, people would worry if he wasn't getting chance's and are not worried by the fact that he is not getting chances, I'd rather him be in position to finish and miss as appose to him during ninty minutes getting limited opportunities

Jelavic is a great striker fox in the box if you like, but he won't get you goals out on the wing
he has 7 so far he has been unlucky in some games and they just didn't go in for him
so he could have had 11 or more this season which wouldn't be bad.

most strikes go through a bad spell look at Torres, Rooney,Welbeck, Giroud for Arsenal
i just hope Jelavic doesn't go the way Andy Johnston and the Yak did under moyes.

I was about to say exactly the same. Last season all he had to do was slot the ball home. Maybe this season we're not making things quite so easy for him. Maybe he's being marked more closely. Maybe things aren't quite falling for him. Maybe we're sharing the goalscoring responsibility more amongst the team. I don't think it really does many players much good to play every minute of every game but you can understand Moyes' reluctance to rest him given that he can pop up with a goal even when he's having a stinker of a game and we don't have a lot of other options. I think he set the bar very high for himself last season and he's struggling to maintain that level but his goalscoring record this year still ranks alongside a lot of the best strikers.

theirs been a few tmes this season where all he had to do was slot and he ****ed it up, chelsea late on and the one where he blasted it wide spring to mind whereas last season he would of buried both of them. I honestly believe he either just had a blinder last season or Moyes has worked his strikers magic on him like AJ, Yak, Saha etc.

I bet I wasn't alone in worrying - and almost predicting - about Jelavic being asked to "work the channels" by Moyes when the new season kicked off. One full pre-season with Moyes. It's happened with a few other forwards in the past, hasn't it?

Cant disagree with this. Moyesy should just make Jela make runs between the width of the 18 yard area. Let Felli be the one who goes wide and then we can hit him on the diagnal and have the wide men, Jela and running on midfielders get on the end of his knock downs or be there and there abouts for when he brings it down?!.

But in Jelavic's defence, he isnt getting anywhere near the service he did like last season!. He gets no through balls, he doesnt get early balls into box, no cut backs, nothing of late. And cos he's not getting goals or a look in, his confidence as took a knock.

Watching today, and alot of times this season, down our left we work it and have an opportunity to cross and either Baines or Pienaar play an extra, unnecessary pass. By then Jelavic, Fellani and who ever else have made there runs into the box, front post, back post or wherever and the ball never comes, so they have to move again but cos there not moviung on the run, it's easier for defenders to pick em up!.

If, after weve worked it outwide, we put in an early cross, Jelavic and Felli have made there runs and get half a yard on there marker or above em early and have a chance of scoring but it rarely happens!.

And without Gibbo in the side, a through ball from deep to allow Jelavic to run on to after he's pulled on to the shoulder of the last defender, is none exsistent!.

And there's been times this season where the likes of Osman (like today in 2nd half) & Pienaar get to byline within the 18 yard area and should cut it back to Jelavic as he pulls off the last line of defence brilliantly but they ignore him and try to play it through the 6 yard box and cos its conjested it gets cut out and comes to nothing!.

Jelavic puts a shift in and makes good runs and pulls off defenders but cos he doesnt get picked out or spotted and doesnt score cos of a result of that, he gets questioned wether he's good enough or not?!. He's definitely good enough as weve already seen but cos of a lack of service his confidence is taking a battering cos he isnt getting the goals.

We need to get him working within the perimeters of the penalty box and looking to get him in on goal with better quality, and get decent, early balls into box to give him the chance to score cos this season, he's been badly starved of any decent service!. He's not a striker of the Rooney or van Persie mould, who can make chances for themselves, he thrives on movement within the box and being picked out. Thats why he's so good at one touch finishes, cos if you can find him and pick him out, 9 times out of ten he'll bury chances.
