All old school mates and lads who lived near me, good footie fans, not cocker knee wannabes ;)
Had to get tram to Sale couple years ago and stupidly got on at match time. Spurs v man u. Having a go at each other then all joined in together with 'we all hate scousers' and I'd swear every single voice was cockney

Remember being in the Piccadilly Bierkellar one night many, many, many moons ago with about ten of them, and amidst the drunken revelry and singing of footie songs some knob jockey, realising I was an Evertonian, decided to invite me to go outside and fight him. We went outside and two of my mates (Steve and Dave) stood between us and said to him, "Evertonian or not pal, you'll have to take the rest of us on to get to him." Proper mates indeed.

You would meet more sound fans than you would idiots in Manchester. Think the problem was always with Liverpool as a club not with the city.

I've been really pleased with the opportunities youngsters have been getting in the last 3 years.

It would have been really easy for the manager to play Stones at RB and start his newly signed 9 mil CB rather than playing an academy product who was still yet to start a game in the league.

If ever a result embodied this winning spirit within the group nowdays it was last night.

These boys have no scars from yesteryear.

Special group.

Two months on; this is very much in evidence now.
We have a spine of four..Stones/Barkley/Rom/Geri..all must play. Add in Galloway/Funes who in my eyes are proven already they can play high level football.

It's a good thread mate. I would like to think that behind the scene the likes of the players you have mentioned have got together and look around and think "yeah we can make a big name for ourselves here if we all work together".

Since our last tin pot we've had a few "if only" and "what ifs" moments where we've been close but no cigar. I hope that the lads we have here right now realise their potential with us and we reap the benefit, instead of seeing them sod off and win some other tit of a team a trophy or 2.

Hence having great young supporting players

That's not what the thread was about. It's called changing of the guard and it's yet another boring we should only play people under 25 thread as once people turn 26 they become poop in some weird FM or FIFA world. This place is littered with the same thread written and rewritten and it's still not true. When fully fit our best defence will have Leighton Baines and no one in the squad comes close. Old heads are needed, Gareth Barry right now is performing brilliantly and is the leader of that team with a lot of experienced players out.

From now on I'll not try to make points in these threads just yawn loudly and link their predecessors.

Apologies if I have mis-read your post, as I agree over the old heads and have mentioned the importance of Barry in the starting 11.
My point was we have a great squad were the youngsters are starting to be the supporting act of sorts.

Bright times ahead, but as a famous pundit said you don't win thing with kids:)

I am sorry but you have completely missed the point.
I agree 100% that Leighton Baines will be our first choice left back when fit. Right now. As would probably Jags when fit in terms of partner to Stones.
This thread was, and still is, a thread to highlight the fact that now, were a team whose main players are young lads, all chomping at the bits, with their careers infront of them. The likes of Osman, Hibbert, Pienaar who have been the fulcrum of the club for the last 10 years or so are being replaced, theyre being put out to pasture. Add in the likes of Naismith and Gibson and the redundancy of Distin in the summer and as a team, these guys are the ones being left out, rotated, not playing.
Call it what you like but we dont rely on them now, certainly not to the extent that previously we did.

You may be able to challenge me on this but I cant remember the last time where our first choice centre back was 21, our first choice centre mid had just turned 25, our first choice right back was just turned 27, our best central attacker was 21, our best winger was 21, our best forward was 22.

You seem to have missed the point that old heads are needed but this thread is demonstrating that they are simply the supporting cast now. Not so much the star men.
