The Captain?

I've been thinking about all of this nonsense going on at the moment and suddenly thought, what about the captain?

Shouldn't the club captain or at least the captain on the pitch be the number one guy responsible for motivating the team? It was then I began to wonder if our distinct lack of a proper captain could be the problem. You can say a lot about Jags but looking back he held things together on the pitch for a long time, the same could be said of Dave Watson.

Even when we were truly awful some decent captains came out of it. So maybe when it comes to recruitment we should be looking to get a new captain. Someone that can truly lead on the pitch. Somehow I doubt that a policy of only buying young players will provide this. Certainly not in the short term. Siggy and Seamy just don't seem to cut the mustard. And let's face it if he was trying Davies out for a while he must know he has a problem himself.

So chaps, who is it going to be, someone we already have or someone new.

Yes you can, he was a gash captain.

Captain, my Captain
What 'kin Captain

Captain is as Captain does...or in our case - doesn't

He is not at present arrived at the Club, wake me up when he does, it'll be obvious.

The captain does matter...

He leads the team...
He represents the team & club on & off the pitch...
He speaks to the ref on behalf of the team...
He maintains momentum, praise, spirit, fight, resilience & focus on the pitch...
He represents the team after the match during interviews etc etc etc....
He would control & encourage the youngsters brought into the team...
He leads by example...

The captain is the heartbeat of the team & is very important in my minds eye...

We are in dire need of a leader.

Looking at this squad I don’t even know who’d be capable

The captaincy really doesn't matter that much. Players need to have the right attitude across the pitch, whether they are wearing an armband or not.

people say this, but can you imagine the likes of Peter Reid or Roy Keane playing in the sides we have now and do you think that they wouldn't be absolutely roasting their fellow professionals for not playing to the required standard. Captains like that(with or without the armband) have disappeared, you can't upset anyone these days they're all too precious.
