The Captain?

Was talking about this earlier. There’s no leadership on the pitch at all, which leads (no pun intended) to no responsibility. If you watch us each time we concede a goal, or someone plays a bad pass; they look to the other person or someone else on the pitch as if it’s their fault. It’s the same with set pieces, the zonal marking gives no ownership when we concede. Where if you’re man to man marking and your man scores, it’s due to you not defending him.

There are more problems than this of course, but it’s another in the long line of things wrong at the minute. The bad thing is, there is nobody in the squad who has the personality to be the leader we require.

The captain does matter...

He leads the team...
He represents the team & club on & off the pitch...
He speaks to the ref on behalf of the team...
He maintains momentum, praise, spirit, fight, resilience & focus on the pitch...
He represents the team after the match during interviews etc etc etc....
He would control & encourage the youngsters brought into the team...
He leads by example...

The captain is the heartbeat of the team & is very important in my minds eye...
