Agreed. I have nothing against BBC News (compared to other outlets). Just find it a bit odd that two typos on their main news headline manage to slip through the net. Doesn’t this sort of thing get proof read before the “publish” button is pressed nowadays?
I believe there is a bot of sorts that amalgamates breaking news and is then published. The issue here is that the word 'loose' isn't a typo as it's a genuine word, just the wrong one. There'll be human oversight somewhere but this is the cost/demand of 24 hour rolling news. (on top of cost cutting, and the requirement for a story to be covered as quickly as possible to 'keep up with everyone else').
Mixing them two words up is just a pet hate of mine. Couple of years ago there was a massive advertising billboard on my road that was rented by a local estate agent. In huge writing it said “YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOOSE!”. Every time I drove past it, it used to wind me up to an unhealthy level. I kept thinking “how many people looked at this during the production process, and literally no one said ‘hang on a minute’…”
