its always that way, due to seasons in the hemispheres, and the scheduling, after our home series we have a return in the aussies home series, and because their summer follows ours they are pretty close together

..my understanding is that they are normally a few years apart. I appreciate the different hemisphere summers, but I don't recall two series' following so soon, but I'm probably wrong.

after the aussie one its two years, but after our home one theirs follows, not sure how long its been like that, but certainly the last 3, I remember thinking after 05 and we finally got the urn back, how little time we had to reflect on that huge victory, what a summer, cricket will never be better than it was in 05, we had 5 bowlers, an attacking imaginative captain and we beat one of the best teams sports ever seen

..okeedokee.I'm thinking back to Truman, Dexter days when they went by boat and were literally away for months.

Bad feeling here, tbh.

After three relatively easy wins for england in the last 3 series, I reckon australia will come out fighting and take this one.

They will fight, but ability tells, and they dont have enough ability to sustain a 5 day performance, they will win spells, and cooks captaincy will mean we might throw away a few oppotunities, but cant in any way see the aussies winning this, its come too soon in the Lehmann era, be interesting to see were they are in 2 years

First time since 70s, i think, that there's been two series in the same year. Theyve come up with some bull**** reasons to why theyve done it but its clearly commercial. Normally its a 1.5 and 2.5 year wait between series'.

looking back your absolutely right, dont know why i got that into my head, i'm so easily moved along by the media

What did you ladd make of Clarke's popcorn of naming the English team?

Surely to come out ad outright lie that Cook had told him who would play id going a bit far in the old mind game thing?

After all the moral outrage over Broad not walking surely this surrenders the moral high ground??

Probably just a joke mate. Broads a cheat, plain and simple.

when does the Ashes start .

Thursday November 21st @1100 AET my fine friend.

Nice pictures, saw lots of words, fell asleep thinking about cricket. Being an ex pomme with an Aussie passport I'm on the fence with the Ashes definitely staying neutral.

Was much better than Chico's gash match previews..

You made that call when you emigrated mate. We'll deport you for insubordination like that.

Better than Chico's? Nah were all just pale imitators of the big man tbf, but thanks.

You got off to a bad start there, McBain with that tosh about supple young ladies removing their clothes and bronze Gods at the beach.

I don't know where you live but deep into Spring it's been cold and wet for weeks here in Melbourne.

You don't work in publicity for the Oz tourist bureau, do you?

As for the Ashes, Australia's strength seems to be in its pace attack. They'll need to fire if they're to have any chance of winning.

I thought the same thing when they went to England a few months ago, and only Harris really shaped up consistently. The others played well in patches.

Australia's best chance is for England's batsmen to underperform. If Cook, Bell and co fire, forget it.

We've got no chance mate. Unless they all get gastro we're fooked. Our strength is in our mentality and even thats bad.

And were are you? Melbourne? Well no wonder you're a pasty Hipster who thinks tweaking your handlebar mustache outside a T-Shirt shop in a smoggy laneway is the epitome of culture. For the record Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia have the worst beaches anywhere south of the Capricorn.

Usually the series down under is 18 months after the one over here, they've moved it due to the World Cup.

Last time England went from a gruelling Ashes/ODI tour straight into the World Cup, logistically it was a nightmare because players were away for the best part of 6 months. Naturally by the end players in both squads were exhausted, it also meant we couldnt prepare for the World Cup properly. Players on this 6 month Ashes/WC tour would return to England in April and expected to go straight into a summer program in May. This move around is designed to ensure we'll never go into a WC on the back of an Ashes series. England will probably play a 3 test winter series in World Cup year now

The next Ashes series has been brought forward to 2015 in England to being it into line. From here on in it will return to the usual one home series every 4 years rhythm but importantly the away series will not coincide with a World Cup. They could have elected not to have an Ashes series in 2015 but that would have meant the gap between home series would have been 2013-2019. Commerically having a gap that long would make no sense

OK, so you don't work for the Australian Tourist Bureau. You just sounded like you did.

And, btw, I'm having a temporary break from shaving and I keep my moustache more Clark Gable than handlebar.

Think its due to the Olympics. Our one was meant to be during 2012, but it was moved to this year

Any way I can watch live without having to get Sky sports?? Switched from sky to Virgin 2 years ago and realised that murdoch's minions still have the monopoly on live cricket Doh !!

haha its the mutton chops you want to lose mate. Looks like the pressures on the Poms this year. Get into them you Green and Gold Beauties.

As for the 'how do i watch this without Sky' question... I have no idea. Can you tune into channel Nine??
