Think pope needs to come out the side and go home never to play again so I think that means bethel comes in, but he’s far from convincing.

It’s mad how little competition there is for places the batting.

Would bring potts in as well. Always done well and bowls full of a length.

Atkinson has been terrible so far.

It probably says a lot about the paucity of batting around the world right now that not only are Root and Brook 1 and 2 in the world rankings, but both Duckett and Smith are in the top 20. You kinda feel like Duckett has been found out. If you take out his huge hundreds against Ireland and Zimbabwe, he averages 37, which isn't bad, but it's hardly Sehwag territory.

But I don't like being to harsh on duckett as he's only a litte fella, bless him
 

It's pretty rank though. Pope also filled his boots in those matches, and if you take them out he averages 32 after over 60 test matches, which is barely any better than Graeme Hick. They're just not very good. In 7 matches against Australia, Pope averages 18. In 18 matches against India it's 27. That there hasn't been a single threat to his position is shocking.

Ive been trying to say this for ages. Expectation is way too high for this team, but it sure isn't helped by how much the media had blown smoke up their arse leading into this series.

I think the lack of competition is the chickens of the downgrading domestic red ball cricket coming home to roost.
No one who is in contention for a test cap is expected to play 4 day cricket and surprise surprise no one in the top 7, except the naturally exceptional Root, has a scooby.
You graft for your first 20-30 runs then capitalise not slog sweep to a lucky 30.
