The Ashes 2025

Considering I woke up at 4 and saw us go to 5-2 so went back to sleep in a huff, I'm relieved with that.

Thought Crawley played a great knock coming off a pair and seeing two wickets fall, he lined Starc up very well. Wonderful from Root. Brook looked a million dollars so to get out to a loose shot to Starc is incredibly frustrating, there are no other threats in that bowling, just see the bugger off. Stokes looked like he was playing the situation so that run out hurts.

290 is the average first innings score in pink ball cricket so its not terrible, but well balanced for me as the pitch looks decent. Given we had a run out and 4 quacks I'll take it. Its could well come down to a team getting lucky and taking a new ball under the lights

Start of the innings you'd have called me mad, but looking at the scorecard I'm genuinely disappointed we're not closer to 400....

Duckett, pope, Smith and carse should theoretically be worth at least 50-100 between them

Not sure that cricket works like that.

Given their respective Test averages, Root should have scored 51, Crawley should have scored 31 and Archer should have scored 9.

They scored today 76, 135 and 32 respectively.

An actual total of 243 v a theoretical total of 91. An extra 152 runs.

The players that got ducks have a total test average between them of 42 + 35 + 47 + 22 = 146.

Overall, we are ahead by 6 with possibly more to come from Root and Archer.

BTW, of the four that got ducks, it is Smith with the highest test average of 47. Despite that we have the below.

Jamie Smith, another one who isn't good enough

It's all a bit boring though when we just talk stats. Else we might as well just name 11 players each then look up total averages for both teams, decide the winner that way and then go and have a beer.

Whose he scored his runs against? Sri Lanka and the Windies? On absolute roads at home.

No thanks. Give James Rew a go.
