He's got no business at all being at 3. He's a Travis Head type of player. I don't know the answer to the number 3 spot though, real shame for Pope.

If England were capable of showing a solid defensive technique I'd agree, that's proven not to be the case over a decent period of seasons now for these players. Play to your strengths.
The strength is to be aggressive but I think the short ball is the issue. They might have to be patient and duck under a few and then attack once the spinner comes on or they go back to length.
I do agree, I don't think they have the brains to pick and choose which ball to pull and hook and leave, so they should just put it away completely and if need be wear everything on the body, and be aggressive on the fuller balls. That would be a good compromise and if I was McCullum would be my message. From experience, hooking is quite often compulsive, but also can be stopped if the message is clear to play zero hooks.
I think that's probably a good approach. For some batsman it's not a high percentage shot to go after it consistently. But it depends on the match circumstances too. Stokes was smart and tried to go after it towards the shorter boundary. Head did that earlier too.

The weird thing about number three is it depends how soon the first wicket goes down. If you lose an early wicket you don't want brook, but if you put 100 on then you do. I wonder if batting line ups will become more fluid as the test game evolves.
Winviz is hilariously rubbish. Especially in a sport like cricket where things change so quickly. It’s basically pointless
