When England have been on top, they have played recklessly, lacked patience and made lots of poor individual errors. They've tried to speed the game to a earlier conclusion rather than assert their dominance.

When Australia are on top, they fight even harder to stay there, and they don't let you back into the game. They accept there will be times it will be difficult but take a longer term approach.

I think unfortunately the proof is in the pudding. You can't beat an extremely good side like Australia by taking lots of risks and not looking to bat time. There has to be more pragmatism from England moving forward if they are to avoid a series hammering.

The bowlers are getting more and more tired because the side rarely bat beyond the second new ball. It's not sustainable with older bowlers.

The preparation for the series wasn't great either. Stokes hadn't even had an innings in red ball cricket, and Brook had faced about 10 balls. Some of the bowlers were coming straight off injuries too.
