Declare once root or Robinson out then?!?

They tried to get Aus one or two down, it was worth the gamble. If England had chosen a first choice keeper this wouldn't be a discussion like.

That would have made some sense at least. I wouldn't be declaring with Root still there regardless.

Never give the Aussies an inch,we gave them a yard by declaring.Bairstow made some mistakes took a great catch also made 78 priceless runs.

I didn't say not to take Bairstow. I'd have had him instead of Crawley. Declaring might have cost us 50 runs and no wickets, could have got us 0 runs and 2 Aussie wickets, I enjoyed watching the gamble.

I agree,he has been overthinkin it..but I will forgive him as he is ben stokes and its a great start to the ashes

If the wickets of Robinson and Anderson cost us the test match there's bigger issues at play.

Feel it’s going to be a tight series and 10/15/20 runs even could make a big difference.

I admire the gumption of stokes/bazball and it was an interesting watch, I do think root looked like he could bang a few quick runs last night though and it feels a bit stupid leaving what could be key runs out there. Run rate means they were so far ahead of the game as well.

Only time will tell I guess, but I’m sure Australia were happy to get them back in for under 400 where it could have quickly been 450 plus.

Aussies do well to get that much of a lead. Essentially they have three number 11’s playing in lyon, Boland and hazelwood.

I hope so, but with Khawaja and Carey well settled, who knows what they will end up with.

Evidently the Sky predictions ommiter moved down -9 points on that decoration as it had England massive favourites at that stage......
But an extra 20-30 runs will not lose England this test game.....
