Bairstow is better than Burns or Hameed. I think they are getting far too preoccupied with opening batsman. It should be about who will score most, not who is experienced at 1 & 2 in the order. If someone will score more runs then tell them they are opening the batting and to look to rotate the strike and be proactive.

I honestly don't think Bairstow could open in Australia, regardless of how many runs he was scoring down the order. I think out of this batch I would say only Root has what it takes to open but he is definitely better at 4, especially with captaining.

Some batsmen prefer different positions for a reason, as there are different skill sets, i.e. you wouldn't necessarily have a blocker playing at 5 or 6. Root clearly has a better record at 4 than 3, which is a strange anomaly as he is usually in just as quick. It is a mental thing, look at all the best openers they all had 2 things, they were technically sound but they also had mental strength, not sure there are too many English batsmen that fall under both categories in a strong way and that is our problem.

Also, pretty sure Bairstow has been tried at the top and failed, I might be wrong though.

He's not a natural opener at all, but I just reckon if you give Bairstow 10 innings in the top 3, he scores more runs than the openers in this game. He has too many low scores but at least can go big if he gets in.

Aussies scored at over 4 an over today. England's top order struggle to go at 3 usually.

True, still unsure but would not be averse to switching it up. Maybe will give the Aussies something to think about if we do actually get off to a quick start.

Last 7 Inns (before this match : 0, 37, 29, 2, 57, 30, 29 mostly batting 5. Previous to that he batted 8 innings at 3 : 0, 28, 0, 0, 29, 28, 35, 37. Whatever way you look at it, one half a century in 15 innings is not good.

I know he gets stick on here, but bairstow is a far superior batsmen than burns and opens in white ball cricket just like Warner does.

Only two days in and the Test, plus series, is already a foregone conclusion.

I think we need plenty more of the type of storm which helped us save the 1998 Brisbane Ashes Test when defeat was likely on the last afternoon.

Yes England are seriously under done with 1 days cricket prior to the 1st test but the reality is that we are miles behind the Australian team but ca just about compete in this country.
5 nil to Australia unless the weather intervenes.

It isn't and they've had some poor series recently. India were bowled out for a ridiculous score here last Summer - 36, wasn't it? - and
still won the series.
