Those last 5 dismissals were embarassing. Obviously wanted to make sure they got tomorrow off lol

This. And it has been all series tbh bar one session at the end of the 4th, once it looks like they are not going to get a result they fold without resistance. Looks like a case of why bother, quicker we can get to the bar/hotel/home the better.

The team is currently exactly like Everton. No heart, no fight, lacking leadership, totally disorganised and with no idea what their best team is. You would think Root can’t possibly survive as captain, but who else is there?
Silverwood will go and Giles will hire another chum to fail, strauss bloated 100 comp will line the coffers but kill 1st class cricket. We are ran by tories and public school tossers

This article kind of sums up the problems we face. The batsmen supposedly going to make things better average 37, 34, 34, and 30 respectively, the leggie averages 41, and the quick bowler 32. I can only really think of Vaughan and Trescothick who improved their average in test cricket compared to county cricket, so it just underlines how poor we are right now that these are supposedly the best we have.

Fair enough but averages in a county championship played mainly on damp pitches in April and May and tired pitches in September can be misleading: Labuschagne averaged 32 and Travis Head 18 last season.

Good to see Bohannon on that list although I'd give him another 12 months unless he has a stellar season. I rate Joe Clarke but he's had an up and down career, although I think he would have been picked already but for his behaviour at Worcester. Lees has had a couple of good seasons since leaving Yawkshire and could be worth a look. Tom Haines was very impressive last season - can he repeat it this year? Livingstone will come into the reckoning if he can get his red ball game back to pre-covid level. One player who never gets mentioned now is Sam Robson, who somehow managed 1000 runs last season despite having to bat on that dreadful Lords wicket. The two leg spinners are both good and not helped by playing in April and May. Not seen much of Helm but Brydon Carse is nippy and bowled more accurately last season. Test bowler? Don't know but I would have though Mahmood is next in line, and I've always liked Fisher from Yawkshire but he's had a lot of injuries.

I'd counter that with Zac Crawley, who averages 31 in the CC and 28 or so in Tests. If batsmen can't make hay against county chuggers, how can they expect to do so against the best bowlers in the world?

I dunno - better ask Marnus who only averaged 1 more last season! He's not a bad player!

As for Crawley, you make a fair point but he was picked purely on potential rather than achievement - rightly or wrongly he's learning on the job in test cricket rather than county - unless he gets dropped again. Rob Yates, who has been mentioned as a potential opener, is a similar case. His overall average is similar to Crawley's - but he's only 21 and scored 5 centuries last season. If England had a couple of semi-decent openers I'd say wait and see how he does next season but Hameed and Burns will surely be left out of the squad for the West Indies, so Yates could sneak in.

If you were to pick purely off averages, Jake Libby averaged 56 last season opening the batting for Worcester. Ironically, Libby was forced to leave Notts when they brought in Hameed from Lancs.
