This is the stage of the test where England lost it time and again 4 years ago. 1 more wicket and they could have a handy lead. Need to win these moments.

No it isn't, 4 years ago England couldn't hold a bat against any pace. They're bowling very well, there is always going to be partnerships in an innings, having them 4 down for f all is terrific on this road.

Please don't wet the bed in this thread like you do in the rest of the forum mate x

The batting is very true. But they were 100/4 near every innings before Haddin blitzed it.

..I find myself checking the score 3 or 4 times during the night. I think the immediate indication is that there’s little between the sides and indeed nothing to be overly fearful of. Need to hang on in there and perhaps be a bit more positive with the bat.

Could be an interesting series if England don’t capitulate.

when i first saw that aussie squad i noticed for the first ashes series in what seems like forever, there was no middle order batsman that we could never ever get out. For years it's always been either hussey or haddin in that middle order who would constantly hold things up after we got off to a good start. I sure hope shaun marsh won't become that guy in this series.

I worry about our attack when the hardness of the new ball wears off. Cummins and starc have express pace to worry our batsmen, even with an old ball. We rely on the guile of Anderson. We are desperately missing Stokes, not just his impact with the bar, but also his ability to get the ball reversing in the latter overs.

Very evenly matched test so far and the first session today could go along way to decide who wins. We get amongst the wickets, a nice first innings lead and we can then control the game, but if Smith and Marsh continue their worrying partnership, then we could be chasing the match.

Smith is such an ugly batsman to watch. You'd never say he plays any innings of great beauty despite him being a run machine.

The forecast is for some rain in Brisbane today. Let's hope it gives the Gabba a wide berth.

And can I say thank god for the Ashes. It good to take the mind off the hapless Blues right now!
