This could all be fixed by letting the NHS be run by the appropriate people, and stopping cutting it's funding. It's being deliberately starved of cash so it can be privatised - it all seems like a fix from my point of view. How can something run properly if it's under funded? It can't, so it looks like it's failing when in fact it's being forced to "fail" for a hidden agenda ie. to be sold off to Cameron's associates who will make a packet.

Make an ex doctor/nurse/physio etc Health Secretary, and actually fund the thing, and problem is solved. Also, the hypocrisy of politicians accepting a 11% pay rise and refusing us a 1% rise should be dealt with.

Both of the main party's are polling awfully atm, that labour figure the worst since May 2010. Which is really poor given the amount of ammunition this government has given them to use

If the economy stalls due to stagnant growth elsewhere (as the pundits appear to be predicting right now) Labour have a chance of being the largest party in a hung Parliament. If the economy continues to show signs of growth then Labour are done for. The Tories are neck and neck now, but once the election machine swings into gear they'll be going full throttle on the 'no return to Labour economic madness' line and it'll resonate with the majority of voters if the UK figures still bear favourable comparison with other economies.

There's no way Labour can get a majority. The only question really is whether the Tories can muster one.

Personal anecdotes again I see. Very David and Ivan.

The British Medical Association and the Royal College of Nurses have passed votes of no confidence in both Andrew Lansley and Jeremy Hunt. We have the first strikes in the NHS for over 30 years. I would say that is about as clear a complaint as can be.

I'll have to go for a walk on Hampstead Heath and try and bump into Miliband. Maybe then those personal anecdotes will carry some weight.

Oh, and trade unions are interested in the pay of their members. They're not interested in the quality of the service to patients. Lets not be naive about things.

Unions are also interested in the working conditions of their members, which directly impacts the quality of service to patients.

...I think it's a long way from the truth to suggest this is all about pay. It is a lot about conditions and the service provision to the public. No doubt about that at all.

lol I've heard it all now - doctors and nurses aren't interested in the quality of care to patients.

am assuming if labour get a bigger a share of the vote but dont get a majority, their will be a lib/lab coalition??(if lib dems actually win any seats lol)

werent alot of the railway ones about safety?

I don't know about historically, but Bob Crow would often try and pitch various opposition to modernisation on those grounds. Automating trains for instance wasn't argued against in the sense that it would put drivers out of work, but that drivers are crucial in the event of a crash or terrorist incident or other very irregular events. I'm not sure it carried much weight, but he did manage to secure a series of plush pay deals for his members.

I'm not sure you have as that isn't what I said. I said that trade unions are interested in the pay of their members. Do you mind if I ask what you do for a living?
lol Those trade unions are made up of doctors, nurses, midwives, physios, radiographers etc. I think you will find that their votes of no confidence in Lansley and Hunt were about policy not pay. A 99% vote of no confidence is a pretty resounding condemnation of the Tory NHS reforms.

They also voted in favour of scrapping the Health and Social Care Bill.

They also voted twice for the NHS Reform Bill to be scrapped.

There are approximately 30,000 midwives registered in the UK. Around 8,000 of those voted to go on strike recently, so just over 25%. Is that representative?
