Could you explain more? Not sure I get your meaning. Did the podcast surprise you at all? Powerful stuff, I thought.

I only listened to the first half (well, read the transcript really), so I don't know what was covered in the 2nd bit. It was a shame that the girl (Melanie was it?) didn't get to fully realise her talents.

It seemed to raise more questions than answers (for me at least). Why did she have the reaction she did upon going to the private school? What happened around the scholarship thing? Did her current school do enough to support her ambitions? Her family aren't mentioned at all (unless I missed that bit), so it's unsure what role they played in her life.

Seemingly a bright girl, but I didn't get a sense that there were any easy solutions to whatever problems were presented, unless they appeared in the second half.

As Eleanor Roosevelt said, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

This is just an empty platitude, by the way, which doesn't stand up to any scrutiny. Eleanor Roosevelt had clearly never been waterboarded in Guantanamo or been subjected to psychological torture or brainwashing. It's patently obvious that people can be made to feel inferior and worse against their consent.

You should listen to it all. The second part is incredibly powerful and illuminating.

Even Jesus despairs of you

Not true my son.

I've used it quite successfully in my own life so I don't personally regard it as a platitude, although I'll confess to you (with no torture required), that I haven't been waterboarded either.

.....slightly aside from the election but certainly a political issue is MPs expenses. I have wondered for a while why folk don't think outside the box and look at technology for a solution to the problem. In this day and age why do debates have to take place in the Houses of Parliament, MPs can be based in their constituencies and video from that locality. They can vote from a distance.

It would detract from the pomp and tradition of the Commons but I'm sure it could be managed and technically feasible. It would make politics much less London centric, ensure MPs visibility to the folk who elected them and save an absolute fortune.

I think they were going to mate, then looked on here to see if it might work!
