It's going to be a very interesting election next year. Completely unpredictable from right here, right now.
Hopefully, we'll get rid of those dreadful tories and see off the UKIP-RACIST goons.
What is it that's going to change?. I mean I can just see Burnham talking to Simon Stevens now "yeah, you know that 5 year plan you drew up last month, yeah, well, we'll change that completely should we get into office next year..."
I can't see that happening in the slightest. We also have a growing economy and yet the budget deficit hasn't budged one jot, so whoever gets in will have to face up to that reality, which with health/education/aid ring-fenced, will likely mean even more cuts to other services.
I'm sure Labour can somehow magic away this reality though and manage to increase spending without taking on huge amounts of new debt. I'm sure they'll reverse the medium-term plan of the newly appointed (former Labour Councillor) NHS England chief executive, whilst simultaneously accepting that if things carry on as they are (demographically), the NHS will swallow up an ever larger chunk of national GDP (and is already 250% more than it was when the service was formed and is predicted by the King's Fund to go from 8% of GDP to 20% if things don't change).
I'm sure a good bit of partisan politics is just what we need to help tackle some of these challenges.
