The “Gammon” debate

It's not racist, but just like "snowflake" it is intellectually lazy and used to dismiss the views of others based on a stereotype.

That's what social media has done to debate - boiled everything down to single words or phrases that are 'hashtaggable' or easy to type, like "fake news", "Russian bot" etc. etc.

Indeed, but a term in itself isn't bad if it is expanded upon in a debate and it underlines the existing argument.

When people just say these things to shut down debate is when problems occur - e.g. "you're just another <useful idiot/russian bot/snowflake/insert word or phrase here> so what you say doesn't matter."

It's an alcohol thing: combination of fattiness, capillary damage and the fact booze lowers inhibitions and some folk can get all OTT emotional ...including ranting, raging etc .
