That didn't take long did it?

No idea whether or not Davek is a Son of the Revolution but the last comment has all the perspicacity of the idealogue without the unintentional humour they usually display. Public Services couldn't possibly be more stretched. P.S. pay is amongst the worst in the country.

The truth will surface when YOUR Granny is the one to suffer from cutbacks; when your disabled neighbour stops receiving support; when your kid is the one to have individual support withdrawn.

Unless, of course, you are one of the fortunate ones who benefit from private this and private that ... usually subsidised, in disguised ways, from the public purse.

Emotionally, I'm at one with Aneurin when he famously and accurately described Tories as lower than vermin. On a (limited) intellectual level, I can see that right wing politicos are interested in nothing but their own class and semi ritualised greed.

Lad , YOU , can come again .

Well said, mate. Bruce is a dyed in the wool neocon. He likes to call himself a social liberal and economic conservative. The truth is the two are contradictory when the [Poor language removed] hits the fan.

So not only do you know how to manage other peoples lives better than they do, you now know my own thoughts and philosophies better than I. You really are quite special Dave.

These are the people we trust to run the country, i'm all for a peoples revolution - just not one for starting it...

I worry for the UK to be honest, a good 18 months behind prob the rest of the world in terms of the adjustments needed ecnomicaly to create the environment for recovery.

Labour were remiss for papering over the cracks which will mean a lot of pain in a very short space of time, which has to be dished out by the torries and lib dems.

A kind of political genius really Labour will landslide the next election and let the present goverment dish out the pain - strangely their poor sense of taking the required politcal action will actually save them.

At the end of the day people only care about whats in their pockets and whos taking it, rather then looking at the trajectory that got them to that point and what was or not done in a timely fashion to ease the envitable pain.

The goverment should govern not play politics with peoples lives leading up to an election by trying to maximise thier popularity - which from an outsider looking in seems to be the case. Labour IMo have to take a massive share of the responsibility for whats about to happen over there.

I didnt envy any of your choices in the election, i think the lines between left and right are pretty blurred in the UK these days !

the truth is out there

The cause of the current economic status of this country of ours lies way back in the 80's with the right to buy scheme( a good idea initially).
But the money was not used to build new social housing.
As I have have already mentioned this forced a whole generation that would previously have rented a council house, into taking on depts to purchase properties, pushing the house prices higher and increasing the dept later generations would have to take out to be able to purchase their own home.
This social trend has spawned a more sinister side effect our addiction to credit, why save to buy later when we can borrow and buy now.
Enter our friend the bank, you can just hear the share holders thoughts over the last two decades.

cherching!cherching!cherching!

But to lay the blame this purely at the feet of the thatcherites would be not entirely true.
The later Major and then Blair governments did nothing to stop this trend, more over they incouraged it.
To the point the greed of the banks has let the amount of person dept spiral out of control.
Which eventually led us here.
And yes I am part of the stupid masses who now look's back with the wisdom of hindsite and thinks "I really shouldn't have borrowed so much".
But it was easy, they threw money at me no questions asked, I didn't even go in asking for it, they offered and I took.
what triggered the economic collapse?
Petrol prices forcing the cost of living up?
George Bush's fiscal policy?
the war in Iraq?
It no longer matters.
Its blame lies at all our feet, the government both tory and Labour, the Banks filling their pockets and our foolishness thinking we could just keep borrowing.
I just know it going to be a painfully slow lesson we are about to learn.
Too tired now and can't remember the point I was trying to make, so I'll leave you with this when it comes to politics and economic policy.
We're screwed
