Excellent post.

The act of 'thanks' itself was wholly inappropriate. Everton Football Club has supported the JFT96 campaign, not Liverpool Football Club. The incessant attempts of the club's marketing department to make the events of '89 and after about them - that they hold it aloft of some kind of stigmata - is dishonourable, hubristic and calculated.

Everton Football Club supported a campaign for truth and justice, a campaign that involved the families of people from Merseyside, some LFC fans, some EFC. Liverpool Football Club has absolutely no right to appropriate that support. It was neither for them nor about them.

That they chose to be willfully antagonistic with their 'thanks' is yet another sign of how removed the club is - top to the very, very bottom - from any sense of reality, any sense of decency. Everton should have moved publically before the Derby to say that, while we appreciate your thanks, it's really not necessary. Unfortunately it was allowed to happen, and it's provided yet another platform for the truly vicious and conceited portion of LFC supporters to fabricate stories. I only hope that, outside the city, they're seen for what they are.

The problem is you have a merseyside tragedy wrapped in an LFC flag.

Complicated by that clubs previous misdemeanours their desperation to hang on to the coat tails of the rightful sympathy the tragedy evokes clouds the judgement of people who really should know better.

Quite obviously "he ain't heavy" was the appropriate track but they're just not good at seeing beyond the Shankly gates - tittish behaviour by them and not to clever by some of ours.

Their club, Hillsborough actions aside, are an absolute disgrace in virtually everything they do.

Bringing up false claims about Everton fans making Hillsborough gestures or singing songs about it just shows what they're like as every single blue knows it's bollocks as does every single one of them.

More dissapointing, was the media blurbs from the likes of Gerrard, Rodgers, Carragher during the last week bascially talking about EFC as something they would scrape of their shoe and how unimportant we are in their big scheme things - it was the same again after the game, compleate disrespect bordering on hatred. You could even go back to the last derby at Goodison and Suarez first chance he got was to disrespect our manger after scoring - first derby game after the tribute our fans gave. Stinks of unappreciation and for me was a slap of the hand we have reached out to them at a time when they needed support, they dont get it. Not that its important but through the whole JFT96 enquiry last year there wasnt at better tribute anywhere then at Goodison that Monday night, we should be proud.

Good summing up of their attitude to EFC there. Since Shankly first appeared talking ****e, their attitude to EFC is one of just trying to dominate the club and it's fans down and down into the next division.

Sad fact is it's working with some absolute bellends on here scared to criticise the ref.

Pathetic, really it is. I'm not agreeing with either side, but I would have thought in the light of recent events then we could afford to just put egos and pride aside and this moral outrage to see the fortitude some people have endured.

It must be noted that where our tribute consisted of the song "he ain't heavy", there's was just their typical "play our own YNWA" and sneak some red into our thankyou messages making sure they know it's us doing it.

There will always be one pride of merseyside lads, their actions and disgusting false accusations prove that. I could provide so many more stories as well.

For every passionate hillsborough speech by kenwright, you see 5 or 6 deluded dalgleish "support a racist ones". I didn't think much of that thanks either, they could have at least made it look genuine. But it's not about them at the end of the day, as long as Everton Football Club shows their support to the affected families of the 96 and if they appreciate it then that's the end of. We don't need a thanks off liverpool because it's unnecessary really, we're just acting graciously like any human being would in that situation. Whereas they try and bring up hillsborough in needless situations if i'm honest (i.e. suarez "asking" the club to send money which is no longer his to the justice campaign).

I will say this though, our actions have been classy and marked by a dignity you wouldnt see at any other club IMO - thats what it is to be an Evertonian, regardless of how they treat us or what they say in every sly dig, we proved what a real football club is - which is all that matters.

his stoke rant about us was one of the most bitter, uneducated, childish, moronic and petulant comments i've read in football; i mean did he actually pass the ball across the floor once all of yesterday? educated passes my arse, you're the biggest hypocrite that football has ever seen stevie, i wish someone in the media had the balls to tell you straight how it is.

I strongly suspect the families and the associated campaigners will have been greatly let down by Liverpool football club and said percentage of associated supporters. And the mindless drivel that Mr Aldridge drones on with every week isnt worth the oxygen of publicity - he will get filled in eventually, and hopefully by someone that knows how to do significant permanent harm (never forgive or forget his gloating about Lampards mother dying).
As far as the two "100% reds through and through like" they were getting a few digs in before and after the game because one of them is retiring and wont get the opportunity again and the other one is quickly following him - a bit of aggro and banter is expected from players on both sides - we gloried in Duncan and Cahill carrying the fight to them and they enjoy their ilk carrying on Benitez' "small clubs" propaganda.

For the campaigners, the families and the memories of the 96 - our support will never waver, respect will always be paid and the hurt will never be extinguished.
For the hooligans, the criminals and the cowards of their support - they will continue to denegrate their once great club and its traditions and so further alienate themselves from society both sporting and day to day until they clean their act up and address their total lack of humility and responsibility.

Sadly a minority that would have been a shambles at the nurnberg trials have elbowed their way into the spotlight for what should have been a moment of unity and solidarity across merseyside in rememberance for the worst footballing tragedy this country has ever known. Heres hoping they are as proud of themselves as they boast at being.

Bryan (and at the risk of sounding all 'but it wuz dem nasty lads fault' about it), that process starts their side of things. These stories about Everton supporters holding their faces as if crushed and making wall pushing gestures are so obscene and fabricated it's a step beyond civilzation, and it's down to the people who run their forums to jump down hard on it delete their posts and then delete their accounts. There's just way too much complicity between the loonies and the administrators of their forums...and it's the forums more than twitter that provide the fuel for this nonsense that gets a frequent airing.

Liverpool,Gerrard,Carragher,Aldridgeet al cannot accept that they are now very much a mid table club.They cannot accept that at this time Everton are the top club in the city. The more they pretend that it doesn't matter it becomes more obvious that it does.
Stephen Gerrard says they think about bigger,wider issues than their relationship with Everton,but this summer will tell us all just how big a club they really are now by the amount of money they spend to try to make themselves a big club again.

Everton at present have a better squad player for player and that isn't just an Evertonian talking,it's the league table.
The regret I have this season is that we are not more closely contesting the fourth spot rather than being sure of finishing above our neighbours.

The issue about the 96 has always been more an issue about the people of Liverpool rather than Liverpool FC.
The gesture at the game yesterday didn't work out terribly well,but it was an attempt to let the supporters say thanks and it just wasn't very well thought out. I think that Liverpool FC is a little like a spoiled child who always got the attention and notice and now they have grown into a very ordinary,rather ugly adult that nobody cares much about anymore they find it difficult to cope.
