Beanie hat shortage I heard.
What is delaying this Lescott deal?? Anyone have any idea what is going on??
He's put in a transfer request at City. Tapped up by Barcelona. You cant stand in the lads way.
if he couldnt agree personal terms and therfor had to return to everton would you be made up?
Beanie hat shortage I heard.
It's a tough one really, he's been an excellent player for us and has helped us develop as a club over the past three years but his attitude over the past week or so has been very disappointing. He really has left us in a [Poor language removed] situation.
I don’t blame him for wanting to leave, he’s joining a for more ambitious club who will double his wages. But I did expect him to show some professionalism and realise the situation Everton football club are in at this moment in time. Maybe that’s just me being naïve though, there’s no loyalty in football nowadays.
But who knows, maybe this money will give us that boost we really need and Moyes will work his magic in the transfer market. I hope that’s the case and we can move on.
You fickle bunch...I like most of this post
I dont think his attitude has been that bad, if Man City had met Evertons valuation months ago then we would have accepted back then and had more time to find replacements, It is City that have f**ked with the clubs morale, not the player. It is City who our frustrations should be aimed at. The lad handed in a transfer request to try and force the transfer through, if he hadnt chances are city would be still farting about the £20m mark and we would be rejcting and still have an unsettled player and maybe not have anything resolved until next Monday afternoon with zero time to splash the cash (like the Rooney deal).
Anyone in the right mind would want to do their job at a workplace offering double their current wage, they're building team which like it or not will be challenging for bigger things than us soon.
Lescott has been superb for us over the last couple of years and been a key part of all things good. So he's been lured in by the cash, so what, he's human. I wish him all the best and will be applauding him for his service when he returns on January 16th.
(It would be nice to hear him thank Everton for giving him the chance in his press conference, though).
Joleon Lescott tonight finalised his move to City from Everton, and will train with his new team-mates for the first time tomorrow morning.
The central defender, 27, has signed a five-year contract at City of Manchester Stadium and manager Mark Hughes is overjoyed with the capture of his seventh new face of a busy summer.
"I am absolutely delighted to welcome Joleon to Manchester City. He is an England international who has proved his Premier League ability during his time at Everton," said the Blues boss.
"In bringing Joleon to the Club I feel we have recruited a defender of the very highest quality. He can play in a number of defensive positions, and I’m positive he will make a significant impact for us."
Lescott was born and bred in Birmingham but snapped up by Wolves, who gave him a senior debut at 17 against Sheffield Wednesday at Molineux in August 2000. Fans voted him young player of the year, an accolade they repeated the following season.
He helped Wolves reach the Premier League by beating Sheffield United 3-0 in the 2004 play-off final at Cardiff but sat out the next season after major knee surgery and they went back down.
He returned to fitness to claim the player of the year award and was transferred to Everton, making his Goodison debut in August 2006. Regular awards followed, particularly in 2007-08 when he weighed in with ten goals in all competitions.
Joleon has played an influential role in Everton's impressive challenge under David Moyes, helping the team to the FA Cup Final in May as well as successive fifth-place finishes.
Lescott won caps at Under-18, Under-20, Under-21 and England B levels before being called up for the senior squad by Steve McClaren. He made his England debut as a substitute in a 3-0 win over Estonia in October 2007.
Lescott said: "I'm over the moon to get the move completed, and I'm looking forward to training with the lads as I've not trained for a few days.
"I know some of the lads already - I'm close friends with Shaun, we've played against each other since we were 16 or 17. The way this club is moving on, I'm really looking forward to being a part of that."
Lescott will be unveiled to the media at a City of Manchester Stadium conference at 11am tomorrow.
