BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | M | Man City | Tevez set to seal Man City switch

Manchester City have agreed a five-year deal to sign former West Ham and Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez.
The 25-year-old Argentine forward, who left Old Trafford last month, will complete his move subject to a medical.
"It's terrific news," City boss Mark Hughes said. "He is an international of the highest class who possesses all the attributes to help drive us forward.
"This is yet another deal that shows the commitment of the owner to make this club the very best it can be."
Tevez, who will wear the number 32 shirt at Eastlands, spent a season with West Ham before joining United on an extended loan deal in 2007.
He started 99 league and cup matches for Sir Alex Ferguson's team and scored 34 goals, but decided to leave despite being offered a permanent contract.

I think Tevez is talking [Poor language removed] when he speaks about loyalty and wanting United to think of him as more valuable. He just wants the cash.

Carlos Tevez's agent said months ago he wants to go to a club that are am£iti£us.

Clearly United arent ambitious enough.

Well instead of buying him, they bought Berbatov. He came off the bench a few times and grabbed some important goals, he scored goals when he was picked from the start and both times he was benched afterwards. I know and he knows its a squad game, but from my point of view he was overlooked a lot more than other players.

Well, they did have him on loan for another season so why not do something after the loan rather than buy him straight away. Its like us buying Jo now and wasting so many millions when he could've played for a whole season without pumping that amount of money into him.

I think its his agents doing. I effin hate his agent because every deal he gets his hands on he's always keeping his eye on his percentage -

Manual Fernandes - £12million
Jo - £18million
Tevez - £25million
Mascherano - £18million

He gets his "clients" to sign for the clubs willing to pay the big bucks. End. Of. Tevez wanted to stay, you could see it at the end of the season, the fans wanted him...but his agent turned the Utd offer down because that Kia bloke (his agent) had already been on the phone to Mark Hughes for weeks (he even said it on Sky Sports News).

I honestly thought Tevez was geniunely upset when he thought he wasn't wanted at utd. (y)
I now think he's a money grabbing mercenary who left for the highest offer. (n)
He talks about loyalty, trust etc. Maybe he should have been loyal to the club who gave him a chance at the very top level:huh:

And he's showing huge disrespect to the utd fans by leaving for City. I'll be upset if Lescott leaves for City, and we're not rivals (we're in a different league to them(y))

At the end of the day he just didn't score often enough - he scored 5 league goals last season. He might not have been playing every game, but he started 18 games and came on as a sub in 11 (stats from soccernet). He scored less than one in three for them over the two years. Remember that's playing for the best attacking team in the league, so it's a different yardstick than you'd expect for an Everton striker. By comparison, in a similar number of starts, in a team with a far less attacking talent, with a more defensive formation, playing a far deeper role and while recovering from injuries, Cahill scores far more than Tevez.

He did score some important goals, but frankly that's a bare minimum for a United player - which that level of attacking talent supporting you, even average players will score important goals. That 17 year old kid comes off the bench and scores a winner - these things happen when your team is that good. But the true measure is how he performs over the season.

Not saying he's not a class player, but he's not in that top level. Ferguson obviously thought him good enough to be a squad player, but not good enough to be picked for the big games, and I'm inclined to agree with that.

He's a really good buy for City though, because he'll work well with Robinho and might even shame him into doing some work.

I actually think Tevez might become a more prolific scorer with ManC since he'll probably be a more regular starter and get more confidence.

ManC did a good purchase when they bought him.
