He was a London boy all right. Clever player. One of several Chelsea youngsters under The Doc. I think of Bobby Tambling, Harris, Bonetti and Hinton.
 
Rest in Peace El Tel. The era of the football renaissance, Robson (bless him) had reinvigorated the England side and been very unlucky, the death throws of thatchers cabal were near done, there was a wave of optimism again and we had the Euro's. England were good, no, England were very good and a lot of that was down to the charisma and likeability of Venables. Lets be fair, anyone that could get a tune out of Darren Anderton deserves canonising.

Fantasy football, that song and that semi final. In the mind it is yesterday, but the side and the players and the manager haven't been clutched to the nations bosom quite like it since. A proper footy man.
