True story, day after his last game v WBA,I think it was a bank holiday,I'm in the Grapes pub in Formby lunchtime waiting for some mates as we were off to play golf, anyhow as I'm waiting at the bar I'm aware of a fella next to me virtually propping the bar up,its the big fella on his todd,as you do I says"Alright Dunc, great way for you to finish yesterday"anyhow he looks at me and got quite emotional and says"I love youse blues and you're a part of me"whilst he's got me in a virtual bear hug, didn't know what to say, just "Cheers Dunc and Thanks"lol

The famous burglar incident took place across the road from my grandads house. Was only about 8 at the time and did not appreciate how boss it was that big Dunc lived across the road from him.

I've met him on three separate occasions, he's the only everton player that leaves me starstruck, he just has this aura. Met plenty of others and chewed their ears off but with Dunc I just revert back to that kid meeting his hero. I don't know why cos he's dead down to earth unlike some.

If he was in this team we would have the best strike partnership in Europe.

He was a top player BUT in a better team could have been world class. Gave the fans hope and the players confidence...

Hes the one man Evertonians would want as a manager and i think if we were to promote in-house he would get the job. Hopefully hes on that track.

When I was a kid I broke my arm playing for the academy and they took pity so sent me down to Bellfield to watch training and meet all the players.

Kev Campbell, Moyes, Weir, Stubbs etc. were all sound but Big Dunc especially was the nicest fella going. He spoke to me for about 10 minutes on his way out and I've still got a picture somewhere of him bear hugging me. Couple of days later my dad goes "here ya are, Duncan sent you this" and gives me a scrapbook with a signed photo of every player and a message that wished me a quick recovery and said I'll be scoring goals again in no time. Him and Kev Campbell even sl@ggd off at Idan Tal for ignoring me, not that I was that arsed.

Can't praise him enough as a man.

boss that!

I met an old Scouser one time at a Irish Festival in Chicago back in the 90s not long after Duncan was released from Prison. He was a red but was a neighbour of Duncan's at the time, he spoke glowingly of Duncan and how unfair his image was. He often popped round for tea and was brilliant to his grandkids who were a combination of red/blues. At Christmas he got Liverpool players to sign autographs for the kids and would give him shirts he wore.

That encounter always stuck in my head, made me love the big man even more.
