While down by the Humber and up near the Tyne
Supporters of those sides will worry and whine.
There'll be different feelings at Goodison Park;
No tension, no drama, the contrast is stark.
There will still be emotion, chanting and song,
But mostly discussion on where it went wrong.
The Blues are reflective,
last year was stunning;
Roberto's first season, top four in the running.
So why such a slump? There's real consternation.
They even were worried about relegation.
Some 22 points less than this time last year
And in reality much less to cheer.
Yes there were highlights, it's not been a flop;
Who will forget
Jagielka's goal at the Kop?
A 20-goal striker, John Stones form ignited
And
that demolition of Manchester United.
There's a feeling that Europe, though it's a prize,
May well have contributed to their demise.
Next year without it they're better equipped;
A top-six finish, they'll surely be tipped?
For Spurs, back in Europe - their annual demand;
Their squad seems much bigger and, for it they've planned.
That word expectation; they could end at five,
And with Pochettino they'll feel they can thrive.
The side have adapted in his first full season,
But six league home losses, could that be the reason?
With 56 matches they may say fatigue
As to why once again there's no Champions League.
Again there were plusses, with
derby day glee.
A Wembley Cup final for Spurs fans to see.
Five goals against Chelsea; in glimpses they've shown.
And of course there's the talent of
"one of their own".
And so to this Sunday it's Toffees v Spurs
Who'll ponder "if only", whatever occurs.
It should be a contest, despite no champagne,
With Lukaku and Eriksen, Barkley and Kane.
