Team Under 30

Not really. We have young goalkeepers they just havnt made the step up yet.

33 is nothing for a Goalkeeper. I can easily see Howard playing until his late 30's and Moyes seems to like him so I cant see it changing any time soon.

I assume Hannahman is there more in a possible coaching capacity down the line and Mucha wont be here much longer I reckon. Gordon will want decent wages anyway so we may as well get a cheaper option as sub goalie.

Howard probably has a few good years in him but, in my opinion, we should be grooming a Turner or Ruddy to take over from him. At the moment, someone like Davies has no chance of seeing any first team action with Mucha and Hahnemann blocking his path.

It's more longevity for me. Neither are ready to start each game, every week, but they have to be ready for more minutes than they're getting. Barkley especially.

Vellios has been written off by some as a starter because of his ineffectual performances when he has started, but I've been ripping my hair out when people have put forth that argument. He's started twice with Cahill behind, and had no support. His goals have come as a sub, true, but also when we've been on the offensive late in games and committed more men forward. I'd love to see him play with either Saha or Osman behind, and he's shown more than Stracqualursi -- both are good in the air and strong but Vellios is good with his feet too whereas Stracq's got the touch of a serial rapist amputee with katanas for arms.

Moyes said in the piece that he needs young players in place now to phase them in. Say that Saha has one more year left in him, if Vellios is to be his successor it's then cutting it very fine to hardly play the young Greek this year and to play him more next season, when Louis will be on his last legs.

My feeling is that Moyes wants players who are about the 25 age bracket and that he'll phase in the 20 year olds over a few more years. The problem is that the old guard will come to the end of their contracts and leave and we won't have funds for players in the age group that he would prefer. He doesn't have a lot of option but to put the young players in early.

So he has to buy in replacement rather than using some of the highly rated youth he apparently does such a good job of giving chances too?

But they're all too **** to play supposedly?

He's not even swapping them around, its play the oldies and keep the youngsters on the bench for all but a few ineffectual mins here and there and regardless of how well they do when they do come on.

And then having to do that thing which all other managers get slated for when their name is mentioned : spend money.

Sure he needs some money to spend to strengthen the squad, but he doesn't need money to play some of his own youngsters over old guys who are contributing bugger all.

Must really do their confidence a world of good to read **** like that.

We agree. Moyes would play Saha, Cahill and Osman with injuries rather than give the kids some minutes.

To be fair though these kids are just too young. Anything more than 6 minutes at the end and their knees might combust or their legs might fall off. It's for their own good really.

Tbh Vellios should start ahead of Saha. Saha has been absolutely dreadful this year, especially last few games, he looks: lazy, disinterested, and gash.

He looked like that last year playing ahead of Cahill.

He was given a new role behind Beckford and lo and behold, he started scoring.

I'd like to see Saha in the Cahill role and Vellios in Saha's role if I'm honest.

Moyes should be rotating things round to see what works. I can't believe that he's persisted with Saha and Cahill together for so long. Dropping them was pointless because it's not that their attitude is the problem. They're just getting too old to be able to work like they used to and they're getting less service than in previous years. How many assists has Baines provided? Any? It's not his fault either, he just can't get forward as much because he has no one to cover for him.

He did against Swansea.

And it worked.

So he switched back.
