Regarding the 04/05 team as much as it lacked the real flair stars that we have had since, what that team had was resilance and discipline. All the great sides have possesed a world class goalkeeper and that is what Nigel Martyn was. We were also so strong on set pieces at both ends of the pitch. Gravesen's form plus the introduction of a real gem in Cahill (I honestly don't think anyone adapted to his ability to jump at set pieces) helped give us the ability to nick a goal.
The game I remember most was against Southampton away as I watched it with a friend who is a big Saints fan. We got absolutely battered all game and then Marcus Bent scored an absolute screamer at the death. His face summed up what that season was all about. I think Arteta made his debut too, he was dreadful!
I am not sure this current side would beat them to be honest. We are vulnerable at set pieces and would have had no chance defending Cahill as he was the absolute master as finding space.
