Conspiracy theory

Just been thinking. Not really a conspiracy theorist, hate them, but think about this. What if the investment has been made. Would you tell people now in the middle of the transfer window?

Exactly. Just a thought. Buy up your players, tell everyone after. Problem with the theory is that GP can't keep a cold secret, but you never know.

I wonder what the Shareholders forum will be talking about next week as the agenda appears open Message To Shareholders – News Archive – News – evertonfc.com – The Official Website of Everton Football Club

That's what I originally thought but I think it was more out of hope then anything

It's being held because they haven't had an AGM for over a year (the EGM is something, obviously, different) and the owners of The People's Club (oxymoron if ever there was one) want to quell the disquiet around the issue of shareholders having their say.

A takeover will be the least important issue to them. They'll stonewall or play a straight bat to the usual questions concerning levels of debt, investment, exclusivity agreements and then frig off to their life of luxury pissing themselves laughing at how they've mugged 'the punters' off (again).

Dont forget we are also awaiting the decision on DK, any investment may sway the decision not to award permission for the new stadium..........

As a private limited company they are not legally required to hold an AGM. It is not clear from the article if this is now in place of the AGM, but it does seem to imply that this is the case.

It would be good if a shareholder does attend that meeting if they could clarify if Everton intend to hold AGM's in the future. I personally think that this provision of the law stinks, and if Everton adopt it, I don't think its very clever or an open way to conduct business.

Anyway, I'm sure that they held an AGM before the spoiling tactics of some of the anti Kirkby whingers who wanted to hold perpetual EGM's, which to my view was quite rightly quashed for the destructive nonsense that it was.

Bit confused that post of yours for me BT. You hint you want the board to be acountable in the future, but then you applaud the draconian measures meted out to shareholders (on the advice of Elstone - the thoroughly "nice" improved Wyness model CEO) for daring to hold the board accountable for THE biggest decision in the club's history.

Everton have shown with the choice of venue for this non-AGM-AGM just what they really think of the punters trying to hold them to account: a big tent where they can continue their clown act in.

There is a world of difference between being held to account at one AGM where all due business is discussed. Whether it be the EFC Board or anyone, I find anyone using that provision of the act disturbing. If they have decided to use the act to hold no AGM they'll find no support from me on that part.

The issue of those who parade some moral superiority about accountability are nothing more than liars. The perpetual EGM's were designed to continually embarass Everton, not just the board, but its fan base. They paraded themselves as if they were the majority of Evertonians. They're not. To ban their antics is exactly what I would have done.

They've put their own petty agenda ahead of anything else and to be frank, got what was coming to them. If Everton decide not to hold an AGM, they are in part to blame.

Perpetual EGM's? They forced one and lobbied for another because they wanted a show of hands vote of shareholders on the Kirkby scheme. "Nice" Mr Elstone with the [Poor language removed] eating grin then pulled a bureaucratic trick to avoid this democratic act. There's your embarrassment, righ there.

You'd think these people were doing it to line their own pockets the way you react to them. But they cant be doing that though can they, because there's no room at the trough the board of directors are determined to stick their snouts into.

Oh course, they were nice blokes who hadnt a clue about political machnations or any of that machiavellian stuff. Oh, I see a pig flying over the moon (again).

No, until the potential continuous EGMS were stopped the ring leader made it clear that they would continue to call EGM's one after the other, which is their right as shareholders untl they got their way. Don't change the issue to one about lining their own pockets. It was never about that, and I'd never accuse them of that without evidence.

What I am saying is that they had a particular agenda. You agree with that agenda, I don't. Simple as. The club used their democratic lever, which is their right (they do own more shares in total) to block their game. Elstone used the law in the same way that they did. Except that they came away with a bloody nose.

Its a shame that democracy for them only works when they get their way. Its also a shame that some opponents of BK and DK will go to any lengths, even if it undermines the club to get their own way. And yes, I am talking about a certain chairman of a certain organisation who was prepared to demonise Everton fans as hooligans to frighten the old ladies of Kirkby.

Shame on them. Shame, shame shame.

Well BT, I've been searching for a definition of democracy that supports your view of it: IE 'democracy is the act of four shareholders owning three quarters of all shares in a company that defeats a motion to give one man, one vote on an issue'. No go.

You are right in principle about the club using their powers as they see fit. Fair enough. But let them dispense with all that People's Club bollix because it simply cant stretch to cover their embarrassment when push comes to shove on major issues like this. But they wont. The likes of Elstone will use a mechanism like the above to hide behind in order to get the board's way and then expect to flog People's Club mouse mats. They're taking the piss, and I suspect you know it too.

Its also a shame that some opponents of BK and DK will go to any lengths, even if it undermines the club to get their own way. And yes, I am talking about a certain chairman of a certain organisation who was prepared to demonise Everton fans as hooligans to frighten the old ladies of Kirkby.

<sigh>

Let's not even get into the dirty tricks stuff that's arisen in this campaign. The club and their partners have been shovelling [Poor language removed] from the word go. If that's all you have against the people fighting to keep the club within the city I'd call it a early night.

Bigger than our move to Goodison?

Bigger than our move to Goodison?

Much bigger. We are in an age of football where your stadium is a huge factor in a clubs success. I guarantee if OT was our stadium we would get tens of investors sniffing round by tomorrow.
