I think that's fair comment if people have only visited in holiday or for a short work trip.

It's incredibly artificial and once you peel back the shiny facade you're not going to see much without knowing where to look. (To be honest, even when you know where to look and have firm 'local' friends it's hardly post renaissance Europe lol)

Mr. Barton may well be earning more than he did back home, but I guarantee he's spending far more than he was on 'life' back home. I get it, it's intoxicating at first.
