I think he was quite solid in his first matches with us and personally, he made me forget about Lescott pretty quick.

That said, after his injury, he just hasn't been the same player. Even a few of his performances before his injury weren't quite what we had seen but I don't think he's a gash defender at all.

I still think he'll play a part this season and beyond. Let's not write him off just yet.

He's OK as a squad player, but nowhere near good enough to be a starter for the club we want Everton to be. And IMO neither is Senderos, although he's a probably a slight upgrade on Distin.

But I disagree with those that say he was waste of money. He's decent cover, just not a first choice. An given the situation we were left in after the Lescott saga, so late in the window and with Jags out, it was not a bad piece of business.

Bottom line: I'd place Jags, Heitinga, Yobo and even Neville ahead of both Distin and Senderos at CB.

Im not going to make a judgement on any of the back four as long term canditates untill there is a measure of consistencey in the starting line up.

To be honest ive seen all the four canditates at full tilt show their talent over the years and i have confidence in each.

Didtin to be honest hasnt really impressed me despite a three game partnership with Yobo early season. But the same could be said of Yobo.

The Heit has looked impressive, with the ball at his feet and his distribution is good, he is tenacious and puts in a shift, but im not sure hes a great reader of the game without the ball - that may come.

Joey has the expierence and talent, not to be underestimated - Joey is an excellent centre back when hes in beside someone who will organise and thake the lead role for the unit.

Jags struck gold last year and grew in confidence as a result, he has to fit into a very different back four this time around with a mass of expectation on his shoulders. On the plus side hes a good strong defender who has developed good instincts and leadership skills.

Senderos im tipping to be an inspired signing.

It will be all about the blend really, who can play well togehter ive no doubt all will get oppurtnites, it will be about who is willing to take it and step up to the plate. I still think we lack the balance Lescott gave us acorsss theback four.

A year is a long time in football, i remember people wanting to get rid of Baines around this time last year.

Only saw the first half before going to work but he dealt well with a couple of really awkward situations under pressure and stepped out intelligently to catch Bent offside on at least one occasion.

I bet Rob Jarvis can still find fault though :P

Much better today, I thought he was one of our better players. Hopefully he can build a bit of form over the next few games.

When everyone's fit he's going to be fourth or fifth choice centre back behind Jagielka, Heitinga, Yobo and Senderos. We can't afford to have a £5m bench warmer picking up his sort of wages. Plus he'd be blocking the progression of Shane Duffy.

I haven't been that impressed with him at all. I'd cash in during the summer while he still might be worth something.

Thanks to injuries, Lescott leaving and the lack of time in the transfer window our only options for a CB that I could think of that we could plug right in w/o having them get up to speed were Dunne, Senderos and Distin. Well Senderos is here and though Dunne has been a steal for Villa he came off an awful season in which people, myself included, thought he was finished. Distin was the right choise at the time.

I think he's been a soild player over the past few years and he's having a bad run of form. The best CB partnerships have someone who can handle an ariel attack and someone who can tackle and break up passes. Yobo is a decent tackler and Distin was decent with him. Jags excels at both and I think a Jags-Distin partnership would be one of the better partnerships in the prem. So I'm going to withhold judgement on him until Jags comes back.

We may need him too. If Fellani keeps playing well who knows what is going to happen at the end of the season, becasue if he does Hetingina might have to move to DM.

I also think that if he doesn't cut it we could still sell him for say 2.5M.

Not the only one in defence today though mate - we should remember that, and not the worse on the pitch, there were at least 3 or 4 players attacking who I thought were worse.
