Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson admitted that his side had been knocked out of their stride by Everton at Goodison Park, as the Toffees secured a 1-0 victory.
The defeat saw the Citizens drop to seventh place in the table, with Eriksson having no complaints about the outcome on Merseyside.

Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson admitted that his side had been knocked out of their stride by Everton at Goodison Park, as the Toffees secured a 1-0 victory.
He said: "It took far too long for us to get going, we started 40 minutes late. Just the last few minutes of the first half saw us starting to play the football we want to play.

"We were kicking long balls, chasing second balls, we are not good at that. If that is the way we are going to play our football, we will have to sell half our team and buy other players instead.

"We will not do that. So it was frustrating and disappointing, we were not brave enough to play the way we wanted in the beginning.

"But credit to Everton. They are aggressive and our opponents know we want to play football and they try to prevent it.
"We have to be big enough to beat that if we want to be a great team. But we were more positive in the second half, our attitude was much better.

"But we did not create enough chances. Considering how much we had the ball, we should be creating more opportunities than that. But it has been our problem in many, many games this season."

Yes well said sven you fukkin melt. I forgot all that great football your side played in the first half. Kick an rush if i remember correctly. An the second half, Yes you had plenty off possesion but done fukk all with it. First shot on target in the 93min, Ye thats great football.

You'v just shown yourself to be an utter prick like other managers who get done by the blues, an the excuse is that were really aggressive. You were shiit for england an you'll be shiit their.

british managers = aggressive & direct.
foreign managers = the beautiful game.

the media has gone down this road so many times, people like sven just subconciously subscribe to it!

Come on Sven has no respect from football fans. I bet City fans were slagging him off before he became there manager.

Do you think Nancy is aggressive, I bet she is, while Sven has his Love tips book, she's just going for it.

I hope this image stays with you all. :) :)

Nothing wrong with that... is Eriksson saying it as a insult, cos i don't consider it one. Half the point is to try and prevent your opponent playing football. Some people jsut don't realise it, hence why Keegan's Newcastle never won the title when they should have!

I think the thing pissing Erickson of is that i think we are the only team in the leauge who can win by playing good quality football, but can also win by being aggressive and bullying other teams out of the game. In other words theres a vairence in the way we can play, depending on the game and opposition, obviously the commited display we showed yesterday was more a throwback to past seasons. I personally think he wasnt expecting us to play that way and as such his tactics were dead in the water. You gotta love the frustration of some managers when their outdone in a tactical sense, Benitez and Wenger are my favourate wingers. To be fair to Sven i heared him being interviewed and i think the comments wernt meant to be critical of everton, i thought he was having a go at this own team more for allowing us to impose our gameplan on them.

To be fair he hits it on the head himself saying his team were not brave enough to play the football they should have played. He also goes on to admit that his team does not possess the ability to play in the dimension Everton imposed on the game.
The ability to be able to play flowing football, kick and run, route one, all out defence or balls out attacking football is something only the best teams can claim to be able to do. Everton this season have demonstrated that they can play in whatever style is required, and if need be can change a game to make opponents lives very difficult.
Being able to play scrappy football is where Arsenal have failed in recent seasons. This season, against us, they demonstrated that they can finally mix it up in this way (which is the style we have played against them in the past to beat them).
Any team that lacks any of the above styles is easily outplayed by the right tactician as Moyes and the mighty Blues demonstrated against a very nervous (but not without talent) Man City.
The only person Sven can blame for his loss is his players for not taking the game by the balls and forcing us to play their way. Instead Moyes forced a scrappy hurried style on them and they couldn't deal with it in the end.
1-0 Moyes vs Sven.

I've never rated Sven as a tactician at all. He tries to rely on his players ability to win him games rather than strategy. If Sven and Keane were to swap clubs, Man city would be top of the league with a few subtle player changes and Sunderland would be pinned to the foot of the table.

I give Sven till the middle of next season before he is sacked.

The French club?

Don't know a thing about 'em. :P

I think Sven was openly honest about the display of both teams to be honest, it was shocking to be honest, a manager, telling the truth?! What's all that about??!? Thought he was gonna do 'A Wenger' and not see anything.

As for us being the only aggressive team, ask Anichebe, he got the [Poor language removed] knocked out of him by that **** Richard Dunne all [Poor language removed] game, he was probably the most aggressive player on the pitch.

We weren't overly-aggressive in my opinion, they've got players that don't like a tackle, that Castillo [Poor language removed] himself every time one of our players got near him, but he's new to the league and all that. And Elano is the same, all skill no mettle, which is how I used to think of Arteta until he started putting himself about. Petrov doesn't like too many challenges either, so if we're tackling those players, I guess we are being more aggressive, but that's not saying much if they're doing [Poor language removed] all is it?

what old sven is trying to say is be careful, poor elano bruises easily and he doesn't like when he plays rough with the other boys :(

i love these accusations, anyone who saw the way we played in games like against arsenal (first half atleast) knows we play nothing but beautiful football, just because our boys can stay on their feet and will give you a knock everyone once in a while doesn't mean they need to cry about it.

watched city a few weeks ago play Blackburn anin the first half Petrov ran riot at the start of the second half Hughes had told a defender to tackle him hard after that he disappeared no bottle.

I didn't know Sven know a joke or two, may be he need to look at some of our recent games, sound like he was talking about an old Everton team who was fighting to stay in the Premier League.

It has now become part of our history book, but guess Sven has been managing England for too long, his data on Everton don't seem to be up to date.

Guys, when are you going to remember, players like Elano and Petrov need to be respected and given all the time on the ball that they need, so they are able to produce their skill and guile unaffected by brutish Englishmen like Tony Hibbert trying to snap their ankles.
