"There really is little point moaning about the lack of reliable back-up in goal, defence or attack so long as Everton don't even have a starting midfield. No wonder Moyes is miffed. Just how did a team that qualified for the Champions League in 2005 and has finished fifth and sixth in the last two seasons get into a situation whereby it now seems they must fill a far-off new stadium before being able to adequately fill their team sheet?"

Sums up nothing. Its just the usual tirade coming down on Everton. Been hearing it ever since the 80's.

Why oh why is that coming down on Everton. It is true what Makis has just said. I no you are showing great loyalty towards the club and i comend you for that, but there is loyalty and completely being oblivious to what is the truth.

What is the truth? That we are in the [Poor language removed]? Again? We were in the [Poor language removed] when Rooney [Poor language removed] off and we got 4th. We were in the [Poor language removed] again this season, with all around is spending more money (not top 4), yet we finished ahead of them all.

Who has really improved their squad around us?

Tottingham, yes they improved it last year, but Jol wasnt the man Ramos is, but Keane is a big loss to how they play.

Im on your side btw, but we do need players and outsiders looking in can only see the facts, we have lost 5-6 players and got in nobody.

Who are the 5-6 players we have lost? Remember we have had an injection of youth during this pre-season, and regardless of experience, they have all played and played well. Rodwell was very composed and fitted in well, Gosling had his moments, and Baxter scored, and contributed to at least two assists due to some excellent play.

So if we look at the players not at the club who were here last year, how many of them were regulars in the first team?

Anthony Gardner? No.
Tommy G? No.
McFadden? Not really.
AJ? Spent most of his time on the bench.
Wessel? Not a regular
Fernandes? Flitted in and out.

I can't think of anymore really.

I just think people are making a mountain out of a molehill.

"outsiders looking in can only see the facts, we have lost 5-6 players and got in nobody."

Im not an outsider!!!

we have only really lost carsley - everyone else was on the fringes, its not all doom n gloom

Ok, so by outsiders you mean non-Evertonians? Ok, so what does it matter what some poor excuse for a journalist says about the club?

If we on the inside know that its not as bad as it seems. Like [Poor language removed], we really need to replace Anthony Gardner, Who? Exactly.

But Maksi has been taken in by this doom monger and spread the misery here.

Lets all cheer up. For the love of god!!!!

It is for me, i go on holiday on Saturday and will miss the PSV game, then i wont have access to a PC for a week and will be left with only the papers for my info. So i NEED something to happen NOW!!!!!!

Gonna be back for the Blackburn game tho, unless i hit some traffic coming back!

There's 10 days left!!!!! And another couple of weeks till the window closes on the 31st of August. We will have players in by then. All you hear is - "We need players, we need them in early to gel" They've a whole season of 60 odd games to gel!

A team might have the greatest pre-seaon friendlies ever but when it comes down to the league crunch they fall flat on their arse.

For me the most important time in the season is the business end in January -- you go on a 8 game winning streak puts you in the top 8 from midtable, which is really the only thing that might upset many.

I agree, its frustrating with what we're yet to build on last season, but I feel we have time to get the right players in Moyes knows will work and dive straight in. If its true Moyes takes his time, he knows they will work.

No doubt our starting eleven can compete with anyone in the league.

My concern is that if we get injuries, which we most undoubtedly will, who's going to step into those roles?

As usual, the words "squad" and "depth" aren't making me feel real good where Everton are concerned.

Excellently put, short but straight to the point(y)
