So was Afonso Alves, and he was awful, just saying the Dutch league isn't very good and how many people are their on here who actually watch him week in week out?

I have, subsequent to the thread's chorus of pro-Tadicers singing his praises, googled young Tadic and would concur with those proclaiming his footballing pedigree. I imagine he is on the billionaires radars too?

i remember listening to Football Weekly when it was announced that Suarez had been signed by Liverpool from Ajax and Barry Glendening was very sceptical about the purchase mentioning that the number of goals scored in the Dutch league should be counted like dog years as the league was so poor. Only reason I recall it was because Uraguay had been the team I had supported in WC 2010 once those I had links to had been eliminated so I'd watched all their games closely and had been v impressed with Suarez's skill. Boy did that one come back to bite me....

Never seen Tadic play but all purchases are a bit speculative anyhow regardless of the league etc and you never realky know if the reason things don't work out is the players, the club or just the style of football - Diego Forlan was a bit of a flop at United but went on to win the Golden Ball

Barry Glendenning is not always the most insightful commentator but he must have kissed the Blarney stone a few times, he can come out with some entertaining quotes.

Alves had a ridiculous season in holland mate, think he scored 7 in one game etc, the other previous brazillian top scorers in holland where romario and ronaldo, but alves didnt have the overall skill those had so was always regarded as a gamble hence ending up at boro, tadic is a playmaker with a huge amount of skill and technique mate - and hes been lighting that league up the past 3 years, overlooked as he plays for an unglamarous twente side, if he played at psv or ajax hed be at a top european team by now

Hes been linked to both united and dortmund in the last summer mate, wouldnt shock to see him at either of those or spurs/arse/athletic mad/inter etc, hes quality enough, prob not young enough or a big enough name to go the oil clubs like.

Didnt coleman only recently sign a 5 year deal and mccarthy only signed in the summer.

Indeed. But its nice to reward players who have done so well. A new contract for Coleman would possibly keep the vultures away for the Summer and id assume its a year, 2yr max for McCarthy with a slight wage increase to reward him for his great season.

Doesn't every transfer made represent a risk to some degree? I know the Dutch League is very weak and lightyears behind the EPL, but you can still see if a player is able to offer that something extra. Tadic imo is such a player. Creative, eye for that killer pass, skillfull and hard working. Can play at LW, RW and ACM. With Pienaar maybe off to SA and not getting any younger and the very real possibility of losing Deulofeu, you sometimes just have to take the a calculated risk.
