I suspect Mr Dann will surprise you if he signs mate, I was a bit suspect myself, but doing some digging, hes been worshipped by the fans at most clubs hes been at, hes a big powerful lad who knows how to defend, bags of premiership experience and in his prime.

Cant go around picking up John Stones for 3m, it simply doesnt happen everyday, players like Stones are special, special players.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not against him signing whatsoever, I just don't want us to spend £10m+ for him to play second fiddle. I remember him as far back as his Birmingham days, playing alongside Roger Johnson and he looked alright then too.

Is it really that insane? He was their best player last season, why would they want to lose their best player without decent compensation? Jags was about the same age when arsenal came in for him at £10m. We all thought they were being cheeky *******. Prices have gone up since.

I would not care much about Palace's POTY. Speroni was their POTY for 4 times. I also would not compare Jags with Dann. When that bid was coming in, Jags was already an established international player and was at his best form so we all know £10m was unrealistic. I won't say prices have gone up much, we are signing Del boy for a couple of millions.

Btw if Dann costs anything around £5m I am ok with that but certainly not for something like £8-10m. £10m get you the like of Alderweird or Martin Indi.

Tbh we have quite a lot of potential CBs both in the fringes of the first team (Galloway, Browning) plus a few others in the academy like Pennington and possibly Kenny if he isn't going to be a RB.

What we need more is someone who is not necessarily flashy but is experienced, good leadership skills (v important for directing young players) and a good fitness record. Dann ticks all those boxes and you usually have to pay up for that.

I'd prefer Hector Moreno but won't be disappointed if we sign Dann, he's a no nonsense defender who's not terrible at distribution, definately an upgrade on Distin and Alcaraz. Havnt seen a lot of Ogbonna but he looked a bit clumsy against us in preseason but it was preseason so can't read to much into that.

Of course prices have gone up in the last 4 years. Clubs have got millions more to spend.

I still don't understand why people think Martins-Indi is good, but that's irrelevent. We need another CB without question, and Dann would be good as a proven player that's much better than Alacaraz. If he's okay being a rotation player,6-7 mil seems about right for me. When we start approaching 10mil it's on the high side.

Alderweireld by all accounts will costs £18m

There was no resale value when we signed Distin for 5m, which raised a few eyebrows at the time (I think he was 31). All told he proved good value. Centre backs go on a bit longer these days and play some of their best stuff from 28-32 I reckon. Resale value can be a bit overrated as your're essentially saving a players best years for someone else. It is necessary in Everton's financial position unfortunately but it doesn't have to be the total mindset.

I wholly expect Stones to do a Barkley next season so Dann, for me s a critical signing.

You have to laugh people moan for beards about not spending money, then moan when we do. Our problem wasn't scoring last season our problem was conceding so we need at least one and prob two top quality centre halfs.

I wouldn't care if we signed anyone else if I'm honest. Well bar a keeper.

Exactly sometimes it makes sense to buy in the right experience when needed especially to plug a gap between old and young.

Dann is a no nonsense defender, tough and does the job that he needs to do. Nothing more, nothing less. The basics are covered and covered well.

Hope he becomes an Everton player because he would help cure the team's Achilles heel last season and that was ridiculous errors defensively which led to sloppy goals.

So far as I know, we've not really been recently linked to Alderweireld ,Moreno or Indi ( though there is a Spanish web site who sort of does, and the Echo has an article saying two of them "fit our profile", which is pretty meaningless )

Lets stick to the ones we are linked with please lads.
