Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Because it's common sense. We're building the foundations for a new Everton this summer, starting the squad almost from scratch. We will need to bring in experience as well ofc but the logical thing to focus on is building a strong group of young players that will develop alongside each other.

I'm not suggesting we only sign teenagers, but if we're smart this summer the most important business we do will be with the medium to long term in mind.

........2m is 1% of our revenue. For a single non-football night. Every business in the world DREAMS of being able to increase a revenue stream(matchday) by 10% in a single night(currently 20m).

Imagine in todays age of PSR saying "no thank you, not worth my time" to making an additional 20m a year because you dont want to do anything for 10 nights.
I wasn't suggesting we shouldn't hold other events, of course we should. I was just saying that concerts don't bring in the massive revenue that some people think they do. At £100 a ticket plus booking fees the ticketing income one of these events is circa £7 or £8 million a night but we won't be making anything like that.

Name me a successful side that has built a young side were the young player's have stuck together and not just been picked off.

We need the Villa/Newcastle approach, 1-maybe 2 players under 22, the rest need to be ready to plug in and play

Some cheeky but unpopular suggestions for free transfers next season that people probably wont like

Kyle Walker Peters (27) - out of contract, but knows the PL inside out, experienced and seems a solid pro
Josh Brownhill (29) - Box to box midfielder in a similar mold to McGinn at Villa, has got better with age
Tariq Lamptey (24) - speed demon who i would imagine Moyes would use on the wing instead of fullback, a cheap squad replacement for Linstrum? Injuries a concern
Nelson Semedo (31) - Another with plenty of Prem experience, and captain of Wolves
Fabian Schar (33) - An upgrade on Michael Keane (if we don't sign a new contract with him), good ball player, which Moyes seems to like from his centre backs
Reinildo (31) Marauding left back with a fieriness to as well, could picture him at Forest or Villa
Vladimir Coufal (32) We have all seen the links
Bright Osaayi Samuel (27) Former QPR winger turned into a full back at Turkey
Tyrys Dolan (23) Hard working grafter with an good eye to nick a goal here and there, upgrade on Harrison
CJ Egan Riley (22) Not signed a contract yet at Burnley, England under 21 international, part of a solid back line this season

Now 7 of that list are all full backs, obviously you wouldn't go for everyone
Brownhill similar mould to McGinn, that’s a belter.
Don’t know much about the last 3, but the rest I wouldn’t have any of them here as staters. Maybe walker peters, as back up right back, lamptey can’t defend and the over 30’s wouldn’t shouldn’t go near imo

So why wouldnt you go near any of the over 30's?
We got James Tarkowski in at 30 and he's managed 105 games for us
We brought Idrissa Gueye back at at 32 and he's been unbelievable

Forest bought Chris Wood at 31, he's got 32 goals in 60 games
Dan Burn just scored he opening goal in Newcastles Carabao Cup win, and got his first England cap, they signed him at 30

Mo Salah is the best player in the league and is 32, what happens on a footballers 30th birthday that makes you use it as a filter to etch out potential players?

I meant the over 30’s you listed, well most of the players you listed actually. Tarkowski was 29 and him and gana came in as starters. If we can get a top player 30/31 on a free who comes in as a starter, then no problem. But why would you bring in brownhill at 29 and schar at 33( who will be on big money ) to sit on the bench

There's potentially solid logic in bringing in a few experienced players to 'sit on the bench' (or give squad depth, more accurately) if it allows you to spend the proper money on the right players. Realistically we can only make the budget stretch so far, so we have to either be very creative or accept that we can't necessarily jump straight to buying the type of players we want. Theoretically, bringing in a few cheaper players who add experience and don't mind not being first choice isn't a bad idea if it frees up money to buy genuine quality for the positions you really want it.

Professionalism, squad depth, a whole host of reasons?

May as well keep Keane for another year and give doucoure another year on 100k, then give schar a 2yr deal and brownhill a 3yr deal. I think a walker peters wouldn’t be to bad as a back up, 27 can play a few positions and couldn’t even get a small sell on fee in 2yrs.

I keep saying this. Gigs are for marketing purposes, not revenue generation.

Also, it’s quite possible the acoustics will be horrendous for music 🤷‍♂️

Brighton are the obvious example we should follow, at least while we are building our way back to being viewed as a serious club. Buy young, sell for a big profit and have a replacement ready to go when the time comes.

Easy to look at Newcastle and Villa and say why don't we just do that but we aren't there yet, not this summer at least. We have a lot more work to do to revitalise our squad than they did, and we are still dealing with financial constraints.

We have experience running through the spine of the team already with Pickford, Tarkowski and Gana. Add 2 or 3 more senior pro's max and then I really think we should be mostly looking at players around Branthwaites age to fill out the rest of the team. The sheer number of players we need to sign, I think we would struggle to fill all of those squad places with players aged 24-30 who are actually worth having.

I mean Schar plays literally every week for a side that's loads better than us so he wouldn't be coming here to sit on the bench anyway and is fairly obviously considerably better than Keane, but that's not really the point. I was just saying the basic theory isn't a bad one, picking up some squad fillers for free or very low fees and trying to use the money available on fewer but higher quality players may be a better option than diluting the quality by trying to bring in quantity. It's something Moyes did a lot in his first spell too.

What have they won?

Newcastle have won the League Cup and made Champions League
Aston Villa are in an FA Cup Semi Final and are in the Champions League
West Ham won a European Trophy

All clubs with similar stature as ourselves and have also had troubles previously, i'd rather follow any of there examples and actually achieve something than celebrate fleecing Chelsea for some South American every 18 months
