I find it mad that after 6 years we are still intent on looking for a striker to hold the ball up, and if he scores it’s a benefit.

Numerous manager, numerous DoF, yet the principle remains the same.

Must clubs adapt to new philosophies and ways of playing; we don’t. Intent on looking for a certain type of player so the club can play a certain type of way.

I was shocked when we were linked Daka (not saying he’s good btw) and Gnoto; thinking “oh maybe we’ll change how we play, become a real fast counter attacking side and go for pure pace to turn teams around”

Thats what i was thinking.

With Gnonto bids and then suddenly Bakayoko linked + us playing on the deck last match and quick on transitions.

The logical step was to sign young rapid players with high potential to both grow the team valuation (resales when needed) and build an exciting team.

Instead, it looks like were sticking with this 'hold up' player in the hope he lays the ball off to others who can score goals.

All of those attacking midfielders/wingers aside from McNeil are out of contract next summer.

Its just shortsighted, boring and a sure fire way to see us near relegation at best.

I mean, it’s relatively marginal, but Adams is the better option here. He is a more accurate and efficient shooter, and his stats haven’t been padded by penalties, which account for almost a 5th of Maupay’s goals.

I don’t think Adams is going to turn into a 15-20 goal a season striker by any means. But I do believe he’ll comfortably outstrip Maupay’s output of one goal in a full season

But to repeat again: THIS NEIL MAUPAY IS NOT PLAYING FOR US !!!
He does not fit our style of play, we need someone who can hold it up and bring others into play. Maupay is probably best feeding off a main striker and his confidence is shot. So any comparison between them is rubbish. Yes i had preferred a better striker too but Adams is an upgrade compared to him. And with Danjuma, Chermitti, Harrison and hopefully Gnonto we have strengthened our attack more than i would have hoped. But it needs both Adams and Gnonto.
