Well I think the point is we'll be hoping to move Schneiderlin, McCarthy and Besic out, and we'll have brought in one player (Delph) to cover what all three offered to the squad. Which seems a sensible approach.

He's not a clogger. I wasn't enthused with the signing at first but taking a step back it's a sensible one. He's not going to set the world alight but you don't play for City for four seasons if you're a clogger, especially not with three of those being in Pep's side.
McCarthy and Besic can hardly be included, can they? The pair of them haven’t been proper squad memebers for a couple of years now.

But they need to be moved on, as does - ideally - Schneiderlin. So it would be 3 in, one out, in terms of squad size. They take up wages, (probably around 190-200k combined between the three of them) so they have to be counted.

Almost every team in the world would be two injuries away from having a player that isn’t great playing in a certain position.

You need 2 players to every position but then a few more than can play various positions. Say gana and schneiderlin get Injured, we are then on mccarthy. Digne and baines and onto Martina. Sig and tom and onto besic etc. Get delph in and we can get rid of martina, mccarthy and besic knowing we are fully covered with only 1 player. Delph is also better than tom, schneiderlin and baines which allows for better player rotation in xmas period or if we have any cup runs.
