Thats the dream. Cant see it with him being 29 and we know he asked to go in Jan...

I think £30mil is good money for a player turning 30 in september.
I actually thing he will go for more than 30. I would have took that in jan, but to be fair to him he finished the season really well and has been excellent in the Afcon. I’m thinking 35min

Bit of a left field replacement weigl from Dortmund, I’ve read that they were looking to sell, maybe lost his way a bit, but is a very good player and is a specialist number 6.

Yet he's moving to PSG...

Who dont play in the premier league.

Zat-No top club will ever be in for Gana
PSG-We want him
Zat-Yeah but no top club will ever be back in for him again
United-We’re interested
PSG-Us too. We still want him
Zat-Yeah but he’s 29

No one has bid for him apart from PSG. Aside from their attackinc players they arent exactly a 'top team'.

Or we take door number 3, and bring in players to fill holes we actually have while retaining our top performers.

Great plan. Who pays for the stockpiling of old players and the new ones?

He really stepped up after Jan. Wonder why he never reached that level before...he also pushed for the move. Cant tell if he found a new gear or was just playing within himself.

Weigl was a high potential player and like you say, lost his way.

I think it depends on what kind of player we want next. This season it has to be someone who can add value to Gomes / Sigurdsson.

Both of them have limitations so its not an easy task to cover them up.

I rate the boy very highly, but I see where Zat is coming from.

We can roll the dice and try and do better, I know you think there isnt better, but there is, somewhere out there.
Or
We can keep him and keep plodding along with a player who does boss tackles.
I just don't know who could just jump in there and makes us better.

Could I see a terrific squad without Gana? Sure. But admittedly as I've said way too often, I just don't see Sigurdsson and Gomes in the same midfield even WITH Gana.

But sure, there are talented young DMs/CMs out there that might give us different looks. Sangare is definitely one who can tackle and will push tempo and create more than Gana, but not sure when he'll get there in the PL. I like a TON of young defensive oriented mids and could rattle off 6 or 7 names of young players I love, but not sure when or if they'll even get to Gana's level. There just aren't that many players out there quite as good as he is.

Chelsea kicked the tires on him awhile ago. Man U was in for him before PSG was.

But yeah, you just hit the nail on the head. Both Siggy/Gomes have limitations. It's a tough task to find someone that can make up for those limitations.

Someone mentioned earlier today Barrios and I have to say he was very good at Copa America and wouldn't be a half bad option if Gana really wants to go. He went for 15m last summer so between 25 and 30 would probably do it if not less. This one has a long while to run since Gueye has a week of internationals left yet so it'll be one that keeps coming back most likely.

You’re right. We should be getting rid of Walcott and people like that first.

But we have made mistakes with wages in the past and finding buyers for those is essentially impossible.

Look at Sandro. Hell look at Garbutt. Nobody will pay what we pay him a week. So loans are the best.

And as I keep saying. Silva clearly likes Walcott anyway. No matter what we all think.

Thought Garbutt was off to Oxford or Ipswich, seemed pretty nailed on that

I doubt there is anybody that come in and hit the ground running, but I no longer watch loads of footy, so im not the best person to ask.

You and others like you are thinking short term, im not saying that to have a dig, every season we dont compete is a season wasted, but im sure Brands is thinking long term.

Regards Gana, lots of assumptions, but I reckon the lad REALLY wants to go, sure we could refuse and he strikes me as the type to have a little sulk for 5 minutes, but im sure he would still perform, at about 90%, but he would never be truly happy and we want players that will give 100%. Again this isnt a dig at Gana, a superb professional, but hes only human and I think losing out AGAIN on his dream move would slightly pee him off.

No, we arent running a charity where we give players want they want or they will cry, but we are a business and a nice little 30m in the profit column will allow us to spend in other areas. This has been my stance with most players over the years, if we can turn a nice profit, well get them out the door. Its very flawed, we sold Lukaku and Stones for massive money, neither have been truly replaced.

I get that people think NOW is the time Utd and Chelsea have YTS managers, Arsenals Captain has thrown out his toys, but I still think that with the right players we can still compete, I do get how central Gana is to how we play, his stats are off the chart, *giggle, but I have eyes, hes a wonderful player, im stressing that over and over again, but to me hes not irreplaceable, I dont think anybody in the squad is.

Gana is a top player, but weighing up all the factors, I would be looking to cash in, I realise we are taking a huge gamble and I guess maybe im putting more faith in Brands than I should be, but I trust him to do whats best.

If we sold Gana, keeping the fee we pocket as quiet as possible may be in our best interest.

Let's say he goes for £40m, any club that we approach to buy his replacement (e.g Sangare, Doucoure) will want that + some.

They'll know we have the cash and want to rinse us. Getting the replacement in first may be the ploy, or even not selling at all.

Dream?

Can’t believe some people want us to sell one of our best and most consistent players

Dream no, business model yes.

Selling a soon to be 30 year old that we bought for 7m and selling for 30m+ And using the money to buy his replacement with some change left over on less wages.

That Is exactly how brands wants to run our club. Buy a player cheap, develop them and then sell them at a premium, using that money to reinvest in the squad and bringing the next player through, Like a conveyor belt.

Don't think it can work? Look at them lot across the park.

The problem is you can't think exclusively long term. I advocate for trying out the young players for no real reason other than seeing what they have all the time. I want to see the club purchase players with long term ability to grow. But at the same time we can't totally torpedo the team we are going to put on the field this season and that's what I think this would be. The entire system out of possession functions because of Gana. Losing him means a new system has to be developed just to get by. Maybe in time it could be better but to start next year we would be learning all over again and throw away the chance at continuity from last year that we have because we brought Gomes back. Last year Gana started 33 games. We shipped 13 goals in the other 5 and two were against Huddersfield. We would have a problem if he left.
