Spot on. Takes an excellent set piece. However he isn't that good in open play. In no way an upgrade on Barkley. We can do much better.

Do you even take the time to sit down and watch Swansea? Or do you just see him on MOTD and think he only takes a good set piece?!....

They just asked Tielemans if he has signed with AS Monaco. (It was reported earlier today that he had signed with AS Monaco for 25 mil. €)

He said he hasn't signed anywhere but has multiple offers.

It's supposed to be between Monaco, Atlético Madrid, Juve, Lyon, Chelsea, PSG and Everton.

RK has already said that he does not want a very large squad, rightly so, he does not want to have to deal with players who are unhappy because they are not being played... the very reason we were able to sign Schneiderlin.

The consequence of this is that players need to be flexile and be able to at least cover a couple of positions other than their favourite.

When considering the players we sign this summer, this must be borne in mind e.g a right sided central defender than can fill in at right back, the same on the other side.
A striker that can play up front but can also play wide , a midfielder that is versatile enough to play different roles depending on what is required.

Strangely.... Rooney would be a great fit from that point of view....if he still is good enough to play in the premiership of course ?
He has played up front, out wide in midfield and knows all of these roles well.

Said the other day he does want a big squad to cope with the demands of Europe and the league....

Is he though? When I've watched him play he's been creating quite a bit, watch out for those little backheels he does to set up crossing opportunities, through balls, passes etc. alot of the chances or half-chances he creates get wasted, and the stats don't show that.

Colours nailed to the mast re Sigurdsson - I don't think he's that good

As has been mentioned before, his assists stats look good because he's so good at set pieces, but he doesn't create much from open play. I mentioned earlier this season on one of the threads that he apparently had less than 10 assists from open play in his entire PL career before this season (I haven't been able to verify that).

He's not a bad player, but we're essentially looking for someone in Barkley's role - I don't think he's enough of an upgrade to be falling over ourselves to spend a fortune on. I just don't think he adds all that much from open play over what we have.

Good post mate, the only thing that lets it down is that it is utter madness.

hmm, i don't really understand the fascination with open play tbh, he's what, 1 goal away from coutinho, a player who the media seem to utterly rave about, and 2nd best assister in the league, all despite playing for a bad team with no real striking options bar llorente. Why does it matter where on the field these stats come from? A team i'd say averaged 4 or 5 corners every game, they amount of clear cut chances a team creates in a game is probably even lower than that, so why are set-plays devalued in such a way?

We've been alright with goals from set plays this season, but the fact of the matter is we don't have anyone in the squad who can take a good corner and our free kick options are utterly appalling seeing as baines doesn't take anything anymore.

If siggurdsson ended up with 20 assists for us next season with 7 or 8 goals, but none of them were from open play, why on earth would we pass it off? His main attributes are what this team needs, but he's also much better from open play than people believe, he's having to feed a very static llorente this season, so his open play stats in that regard is bound to be down on previous seasons.

I don't think he's as good as he's made out. I honestly think Barkley has more in the tank and can offer us more.

I prefer what Tielemans himself says over what Terreur says, nothing has been confirmed yet. Terreur is essentially reiterating the news that Tielemans himself denied in the press conference before the game against Brugge (that conference was today).

As Tielemans himself said in the press conference:

"De titel is zeker nog niet binnen. Dat is wat de pers schrijft, maar het kan zeker nog mis gaan", concludeerde Tielemans, die over zijn eigen toekomst op de vlakte bleef. "Ik heb zeker nog nergens getekend. Ik heb enkele aanbiedingen, maar zal pas beslissen na het seizoen. Nu focus ik me volledig op de titelstrijd met Anderlecht." [I haven't signed anything yet. I have some offers but I'll decide after the season.]

Or the RSCA statement today: Volgens Anderlecht is het bericht voorbarig. [The message is premature; RSCA doesn't yet have an agreement with Monaco. We are certainly in contact with Monaco but our manager is also talking to other clubs]

Mind you I do agree that Monaco are in poll position.
