Yeah he played a few early doors when Cedric (who we should sign) was injured. He was poop.
Cedric is pretty good, aye.

How much dya reckon BT?
All top 6 sides have players that will not automatically start but they have them in and around the squad for the 'lesser' games etc. You are not going to keep 17-18 top 6 quality players happy giving them the game time Valencia has had this year. If and it is a big if Lukaku stays, how many top quality strikers are going to be knocking on the door to sign for us knowing they are likely to play Europa League and league cup games only. Valencia has been decent in a few, dodgy in a few but he is in my opinion a good lad to have as he doesn't kick up a fuss and gets on with the job.

Don't get me wrong @bluestevon - we should be aiming for better than Valencia.
My point is - as the poster is saying above - Europa League at least allows us to offer more game time to better players, but I'd rather we target players for the first XI than just getting a random player in as a squad player for the sake of a new signing. Valencia has done fine this season and he shouldn't be our first choice, but if there's a cheap deal to be done then it'd be sensible to keep him for that 'impact sub' role.
There lies the problem mate, if we effectively keep Lukaku and it means we can not sign any other half competent striker due to that (because the general rule seems to be no one wants to be a squad player etc) then we will be left with the exact same situation all over again, Lukaku on form - we are fine, he has a bad day, needs subbing etc or god forbid an injury then we go from him to Valencia, DCl, Kone calibre in one step.
My general thoughts on and squad player mate, should be the reaction you'd have if due to injury/suspension they had to start any period of games for the club, if the general reaction for would be hair pulling and panic, then they aren't good enough for a squad number (the caveat being if they are very young and developing players), but for anyone over the age of say 23 or so, they need to be able to contribute as a starter if needed.
An added thing we need to be wary off is stocking up on low quality to cover us for Europa games for next season etc, because the season after we may not even be in it and then we have a fair few players - likely on decent wages who we won't be playing at all - sound familiar?
I aslo have lots of doubts about the uidea of inferior players giving depth for Europa games, assuming we won't play them to rest starters in the league, when exactly will they be playing besides for in relatively meaningless games once qualification is sorted or games are well beying the opposition - in which case isn't playing an academy lad at that point just if not more useful?
I don't get this idea even now. I have seen it a few times in here and i just don't agree with it at all. It is almost suggesting no striker worth signing would ever come here as long as Lukaku is here? That simply isn't true! Of course we can sign another striker. What about options? What about playing 2 at the same time? What about tactical changes, or earning a place in the team? We have never signed back up before because the club decided Kone was adequate in that role.
It is almost like saying this summer we will sell rom, sign a replacement and then no-one else because they don't want to be back up again. Look at Spurs, Jannsen was tipped to be a decent striker and he moved knowing he was 3rd choice there behind Son and Kane. Perez chose arsenal over us despite having Giroud and Sanchez in front of him. It is just incredible that people think that we can't sign a decent striker because we have one already.
If Ross leaves, Tielemans is a must, and Klassen.
But that's my point - we've seen this season that Valencia has had a real impact when coming on from the bench. At times we probably wanted him to start certain games that he didn't, purely because in hindsight it's clear that Koeman knows he is a player that can deliver in 20 minute spells against tired defences. Sometimes that experience and know-how gives a player like that the edge over an academy lad.
West Ham made the mistake of signing loads of squad filler for the Europa League last season rather than improvements on players they already had. Let's not be like them lads.
